PIA PRODUCT 2015: diesel fuel, beef, cars and petroleum are the top four of the country

Among the 3,450 products investigated by the IBGE´s Annual Survey of Industry - Product (PIA Product), the first four (diesel fuel, fresh or cooled beef, cars of 1,500 to 3,000 engine displacement and crude petroleum oil) generated 9.9% of the revenue from industrial sales in 2015, which added up to R$2.16 trillion.

In 2015, among the 100 products with the highest revenue, the three products that mostly advanced in their participation in the total industrial sales in relation to 2014 were: plastic articles for packaging, unwrought aluminum alloy and iron and steel drawn tubes. The three products that mostly lost in participation were tractor trucks for trailers, vehicles for the transportation of goods and agriculture tractors.

As the major industrial product in Brazil, diesel fuel also leads in the Northeast, Southeast and South. Iron ore and TV sets lead in the North Region, whereas beef, soybean cake and ethanol are the major products in the Central-West. See here the publication PIA Product 2015.

PIA Product 2015 brings information on the sales of 3,450 products of nearly 36 thousand industrial enterprises with 30 or more employed persons and their almost 55 thousand local branches. The total sale value of these products reached R$2.16 trillion in 2015. The sectors that mostly contributed to the industrial sales were: food products (16.9%), coke, petroleum products and biofuels (10.6%), chemicals (10.5%) motor vehicles, trailers and bodies (8.7%) and basic metals (6.3%).

Having sold R$79.9 billion and contributed with 3.7% to the total, diesel fuel kept the leadership in the ranking of the value of sales in 2015 (table below), followed by fresh or cooled beef (R$49.1 billion and 2.3% of the total). The first four products in this ranking had a participation of 9.9% of the value of industrial sales in 2015.

Compared with 2014, the industrial sectors that mostly lost participation in the total sales were motor vehicles, trailers and bodies (-1.8 percentage points); machinery and equipment (-0.6 p.p.) and metallic mineral extractions (-0.6 p.p.). The sectors with increased participation in this period were: food products (1.6 percentage points); chemicals (0.7 p.p.) and coke, petroleum products and biofuels (0.3 p.p.).

Plastic articles for packaging, aluminum alloys and iron and steel drawn tubes were the products that mostly increased participation in industrial sales over 2014

The 100 industrial products leading the value of sales generated, in 2015, a revenue of R$1.12 trillion or 52.0% of the total revenue of the industrial enterprises with 30 or more employed persons. Among these 100 products, the ones that mostly climbed up in the ranking, in relation to 2014, were: plastic articles for packaging, which grew from the 124th position to the 86th; unwrought aluminum alloy (from 129th to 98th); flexible tubes and drawn tubes of iron and steel (from 130th to 100th); and aluminum sheets and tapes thicker than 0.2mm, which went up from the 87th position to the 64th (table below).

Conversely the four products that mostly lost positions since 2014 were: tractor trucks (mechanic horse), for trailers and semi-trailers (from 31st to 79th); vehicles for the transportation of goods (pick ups, vans and SUVs, etc) (from 29th to 61st); agriculture tractors, including monoculture tractors (from 57th to 81st) and seamless hollow tubes, pipes and profiles (from 65th to 88th).

Production of diesel fuel stands out in 3 of 5 Major Regions

In 2015, in the North Region, the three products that registered the highest participation in the revenue of industrial sales were iron ore and its concentrates, raw or improved (9.5%), TV sets (6.2%) and syrup preparations for beverages (6.0%). In the Northeast, the three highlights were diesel fuel (6.3%), cars with 1,500 to 3,000 engine displacement (3.6%) and fuel oil (3.5%). In the Southeast, the three leaders were diesel fuel (3.7%), crude petroleum oil (3.3%) and cars with 1,500 to 3,000 engine displacement (2.3%). In the South Region, the leaders were diesel fuel (3.8%), frozen poultry and giblets (3.2%) and cars with less than 1,000 engine displacement. Finally, the leaders in the Central-West were fresh or cooled beef (14.0%) and soy beans cakes and other residues of soybean oil extraction (9.1%) and ethyl alcohol (ethanol) (8.7%).
