* Seasonally-adjusted series

Also in the series with seasonal adjustment, the evolution of the quarterly moving average index for the industry overall showed decrease of 0.4% in the quarter which ended in June 2015 versus the previous month and remained on a downward trend as started in September 2014. In regional terms, ten areas recorded negative rates, the main highlights being the Northeast Region (-2.3%), Pernambuco (-2.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-2.0%), Bahia (-1.6%), São Paulo (-1.3%), Amazonas (-1.2%) and Goiás (-1.0%). On the other hand, Paraná (0.9%) and Espírito Santo (06%) recorded the main advances in June 2015.

The comparison with the same month in the previous year shows decrease of 3.2% in the industrial sector in June 2015, with seven of the 15 areas surveyed recording negative rates. It is worth mentioning that June 2015 (21 days) had one business day more than in the previous year (20): In the month, the most significant decreases came from São Paulo (9.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-8.4%), mainly due to the reduced production of motor vehicles, trailers and trunks, in the first place, and motor vehicles, trailers and trunks and machinery and equipment, in the second one. Minas Gerais (-4.4%), Rio de Janeiro (-4.3%) and Goiás (-4.3%) also recorded increases above the national average (3.2%), whereas Pernambuco (-1.1%) and Ceará (-0.5%) completed the group of areas with negative rates in the month. Santa Catarina, with null change (0.0%), repeated the same production level as in June 2014. On the other hand, Espírito Santo (13.3%) recorded the most significant increase in the month, mainly affected by the positive performance of the mining and quarrying sector and of basic metals. The other positive results were recorded by Pará (6.7%), Mato Grosso (6.0%), Paraná (6.0%), Bahia (4.1%), Northeast Region (1.3%) and Amazonas (0.9%).

In the cumulative indicator for the first semester of 2015, versus the same period in the previous year, decrease in national output reached 12 of the 15 areas surveyed, with seven of them decreasing at a highe rate than the national average (-6.3%): Amazonas (-14.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (-10%), São Paulo (-8.7%), Bahia (-8.6%), Ceará (-8.0%), Minas Gerais (-6.9%) and Paraná (-6.5%). Santa Catarina (-6.2%), Northeast Region (-5.0%), Rio de Janeiro (-4.8%), Pernambuco (-2.1%) and Goiás (-2.1%) complete the group of areas with negative results in the end of the fist six months of the year, whereas Mato Grosso recorded null change (0.0%). In these areas, the smaller dynamism was particularly affected by factors related to the reduced output of capital goods; intermediate goods; durable consumer goods; and semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods. On the other hand, Espírito Santo (17.2%) and Pará (6.8%) negative rates in the cumulative index in the year, due, to a great extent, to the positive behavior of the mining and quarrying sector.

The annualized rate, the cumulative indicator in the last 12 months, having decreased 5.0% in June 2015, and remained on a downward trend since last May (-5.3%) and interrupted the downward trend which started in March 2014 (2.1%). In regional terms, 11 of the 15 areas surveyed recorded negative rates in June 2015. Eleven areas presented more dynamism in terms of last may index, and the main instances of deceleration between May and June were recorded by Paraná (from -8.0% to -6.4%), Bahia (from -6.0% to -4.7%) and Amazonas (from -13.% to -11.8%), whereas Goiás (from 1.4% to 0.7%), Rio de Janeiro (from -3.3% to -3.7%) and São Paulo (from -7.8% to -8,1%) faced decrease between the two periods.
