Today, June 22, IBGE makes available on its website political maps of 14 Federation Units, at several scales: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Piauí, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo, Tocantins and Distrito Federal. The maps for the other 13 remaining Federation Units are being produced by the Cartography Department and are expected for the coming semester.

The 14 Maps for the State Series are available, in PDF format, at:

http://downloads.ibge.gov.br/downloads_geociencias.htm?caminho=mapas_tematicos/politico/unidades_federacao/.

The political state maps provide an overall and integrated view of the geographic and political aspects of each Federation Unit. For that reason, they are of fundamental importance for public and private management, and also for learning activities. The maps also show municipal, state and international boundaries, hydrographic features, and the main road axes and headquarters of municipalities in the state, according to the current division of the Brazilian territory, including all the 5,570 municipalities.

The maps have been produced according to the BCIM - Continuous Base of Brazil at the Millionth Scale (1 cm= 10 km), 4th version, December 2014, except for the Federal District, which comes from the 1: 100,000 Cartographic Base (1cm=1km).
