In the seasonally adjusted series, the reduced pace of the industrial output in Brazil between March and April 2015 was followed by 13 out of the 14 places surveyed, highlighted by the sharpest drops recorded in Ceará (-7.9%), Bahia (-5.1%), Amazonas (-5.1%) and Pernambuco (-4.6%). Considering these results, the first place accelerated the pace of decline registered in the previous month (-3.9%); the second offset part of the advance of 24.0% recorded last March; the third reversed the increase of 0.5% reported in the previous month; and the fourth place posted the third consecutive month of decline in the production, when it registered a cumulative loss of 9.1%. The Northeast Region (-3.7%), São Paulo (-3.6%), Goiás (-2.1%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.9%) and Pará (-1.8%) also recorded steeper drops than the national average (-1.2%), whereas Rio de Janeiro (-1.2%), Santa Catarina (-0.9%), Minas Gerais (-0.8%) and Espírito Santo (-0.5%) were the other places that posted negative indexes in April 2015. Having expanded 1.4%, Paraná was the only place to report a positive figure in April, after declining 2.4% in the previous month.

* Seasonally adjusted series
Still concerning the seasonally-adjusted series, the evolution of the quarterly moving average index for the overall industry pointed to a decline of 1.1% in the quarter ended in April 2015 over the previous month and maintained the downward trend started in October 2014. In regional terms, also considering the marginal movement of this index, eight places recorded negative rates, highlighted by the sharpest declines reported in Ceará (-3.6%), Pernambuco (-3.1%), Amazonas (-2.6%), Minas Gerais (-2.0%) and São Paulo (-1.8%). On the other hand, Bahia (9.3%), Pará (1.9%) and Goiás (1.1%) posted the main advances in April 2015.
Compared with the same month a year ago, the industrial sector reduced 7.6% in April 2015, a drop followed by 12 out of the 15 places surveyed. In April, the most intense declines were registered in Amazonas (-19.9%), Ceará (-14.7%), Bahia (-12.8%) and São Paulo (-11.3%), pressed, at a large extent, by the decreasing manufacturing in the sectors of computer equipment, optical and electronic products and other transportation equipment, in the first place; of leather articles, travel articles and footwear, textiles and coke, petroleum products and biofuels, in the second; of coke, petroleum products and biofuels and basic metals, in the third; and of motor vehicles, trailers and bodies, food products and machinery and equipment, in the last sector. The Northeast Region (-8.4%), Pernambuco (-8.0%) and Mato Grosso (-7.7%) also recorded steeper drops than the national average (-7,6%), whereas Minas Gerais (-7.6%), Santa Catarina (-6.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (-6.0%), Goiás (-3.2%), Paraná (-2.6%) and Rio de Janeiro (-2.1%) were the other places that posted negative rates in April. Conversely, Espírito Santo (14.4%) and Pará (5.8%) registered the advances in April 2015, leveraged, at a large extent, by the positive behavior coming from the sectors of mining and quarrying and basic metals, in the former, and of mining and quarrying industries and food products, in the latter place.
In the cumulative indicator for the first four months of 2015, against the same period last year, the reduced overall production reached 12 out of the 15 places surveyed, nine of them declining more than the industry average (-6.3%): Amazonas (-18.2%), Bahia (-12.3%), Paraná (-8.5%), Ceará (-8.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-8.1%), Minais Gerais (-7.7%), the Northeast Region (-7.1%), São Paulo (-7.1%) and Santa Catarina (-6.7%). The following were the places that recorded negative figures at the end of the first four months of the year: Rio de Janeiro (-5.5%), Goiás (-1.1%) and Pernambuco (-0.3%). In these places, the lower dynamism was particularly influenced by factors related to the reduced manufacturing of capital goods (especially those oriented to transportation equipment - tractor trucks for trailers and semi-trailers, trucks and vehicles for transportation of goods); intermediate goods (car pieces, petroleum products, textiles, steel products, fabricated metal products, basic petrochemicals, thermoplastic resins and pesticides); durable consumer goods (cars, white and brown goods, motorcycles and furniture); and semi and non-durable consumer goods (medicines, textiles, wearing apparel, beverages, food and motor gasoline). On the other hand, Espírito Santo (19.2%) and Pará (8.0%) posted the highest expansions, leveraged, at a large extent, by the positive behavior coming from the mining and quarrying sector. In addition, Mato Grosso (0.6%) also registered a positive rate in the cumulative index of the year.
Having decreased 4.8% in April 2015, the annualized rate - cumulative indicator in the last 12 months - maintained the downward trend started in March 2014 (2.1%) and recorded the most significant negative figure since December 2009 (-7.1%). In regional terms, 11 out of the 15 places surveyed recorded negative rates in April 2015 and nine showed lower dynamism against the index of last March. The main losses between March and April were reported in Pará (from 8.9% to 7.0%), Amazonas (from -10.9% to -12.5%), Bahia (from -5.1% to -6.1%), Mato Grosso (from 3.3% to 2.4%), Pernambuco (from -1.0% to -1.8%) and the Northeast Region (from -2.4% to -3.2%), whereas Espírito Santo (from 11.8% to 13.2%) and Paraná (from -8.4% to -7.6%) reported the highest gains between the two periods.
