The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE releases today a new set of geospatial information on Geology (rocks), Geomorphology (relief), Pedology (soils) and Vegetation for cartographic cuttings around the cities of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Vitória (ES), Rio Doce (MG), Paranapanema (SP), Cuiabá (MT), Salvador(BA), Aracaju (SE) and Recife (PE). The information about these areas contributes to the mapping of natural resources in Brazil and aims at cooperating with studies and assessments of environmental impacts.

Viewed and edited only in Geographic Information Systems software - SIG, the information is available here.

The new products of the IBGE´s Coordination of Natural Resources are the follow-up of the IBGE´s Project of Natural Resources Surveying, aimed at producing and releasing information which will turn into inputs for public policies and subsidize the sustainable development. The mapping, which describes the physical and biotic (vegetation) space according to the rules of the IBGE´s Technical Manuals of Geosciences, may also be cross-referenced with our own information, as well as with those from other institutions, aiming at enriching studies and analyses on a number of subjects.
