ODS must guide the Post 2015 Development Agenda

Since 2013, according to recommendations of the Rio 20 Conference, the United Nations has been discussing a group of Sustainable Development Indicators (ODS). As a result, a total 17 objectives and 169 targets have been set, representing a big challenge to countries. These objectives and targets must guide national policies and the activities of international cooperation in the 15 years to come (Post 2015 Development Agenda) as a sequel to the Millennium Development Goals (ODM).

Brazil was one of the countries selected to represent Latin America and the Caribbean in the Interagency Expert Group - Sustainable Development Goals/ IAEG-SDG, under the United Nations Statistical Commission. The other selected nations were Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico.

IBGE, as a coordinating institution of the National Statistical System, is responsible for representing Brazil in this expert group. The Institute suggests the immediate definition of indicators in the event, by gathering the national producers of information in order to stand for the Brazilian position in international negotiations on the topic, so that the country can effectively contribute to this process.
