The unemployment rate of the moving quarter from September to November 2016 (11.9%) was the highest one since the beginning of the series, in 2012, although it remained statistically stable in relation to the rate of the moving quarter from June to August 2016 (11.8%). In relation to same quarter of 2015 (9.0%), there was a high of 2.9 percentage points.
The unemployed population in the period reached 12.1 million people, the greatest contingent of the series, keeping the statistical stability in relation to the same
moving quarter from July to August 2016 (12.0 million) and growing 33.1% in relation to the same quarter of 2015, which equals 3.0 million more persons searching for a job.
The employed population, estimated at 90.2 million, was stable in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016, falling 2.1% in comparison to the same quarter last year (92.2 million persons), which represents a reduction of nearly 1.9 million employed persons.
The contingent of workers in the private sector with a formal labor contract (34.1 million persons) held steady in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016, but fell 3.7% (or 1.3 million less persons with a formal labor contract) in relation to the same moving quarter of 2015.
The usual real earnings of the employed persons
(R$ 2,032) stood stable over the quarter from June to August 2016 (R$ 2,027) and also in relation to the same quarter of the previous year (R$ 2,041).
The usual real wage bill from all jobs of the employed persons (R$ 178.9 billion) did not register a significant change in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016 and fell (-2.0%) over the same quarter of 2015. The employment-population ratio (percentage of employed persons in relation to the working-age population) was estimated at 54.1% in the quarter from September to November 2016, with stability over the quarter from June to August 2016, (54.2%) and reduction of 1.8 percentage points, in relation to the level of the same quarter of the previous year (55.9%).
The workforce (employed and unemployed persons), estimated at 102.3 million persons, stood stable in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016 and grew 1.1% (1.1 million more persons) over the same quarter of 2015.
The contingent out of the workforce in the quarter from September to November 2016 (64.5 million persons) presented stability in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016 and grew 1.5% (967 thousand more persons) over the same quarter of 2015.
The contingent of employed persons in the private sector with a formal labor contract, estimated at 34.1 million people, presented stability in comparison with the quarter from June to August 2016. The contrast with the quarter from September to November 2015 showed decrease of 3.7%, which represented a fall of 1.3 million persons with a formal labor contract.
The number of employed persons in the private sector without a formal contract (10.5 million persons) grew 2.4% (or 246 thousand more persons) in relation to the moving quarter from June to August 2016 and increased 3.5% (350 thousand more persons) against the same quarter of 2015.
The category of the self-employed (21.9 million persons) fell (-1.3%) over the quarter from June to August 2016 (297 thousand less persons). In relation to the same period of 2015, there was also decrease (-3.0%, or 673 thousand less persons).
The contingent of employers, estimated at 4.2 million persons, had a growth of 5.5%, 216 thousand more persons in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016. In relation to the same period of the previous year, this contingent kept statistically stable.
The contingent of the domestic workers (6.1 million persons) stood stable in both comparisons.

The analysis of the contingent of the employed, according to groups of activity, of the moving quarter from September to November 2016, in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016, had decrease in two groups: in Agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.9%, i. e., - 359 thousand persons) and in construction(-2.2%, i. e., 155 thousand persons) and expansion in the segments of lodging and food (4.6%, i. e., 209 thousand persons) and of other services (5.7%, i. e., 237 thousand persons). The other groups held steady.
In relation to the same quarter of 2015, the following groups fell: Agriculture, forestry and fishing, -4.7% (-438 thousand persons), overall industry, -8.2% (-1,0 million persons), construction, -9.0% (-702 thousand persons), information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities, -2.6% (-256 thousand persons) and domestic services,
-3.1% (-194 thousand persons). There were increases in the groups of lodging and food, 7.8% (346 thousand persons ) and other services, 7.0% (287 thousand persons). The other groups did not change.
The average usual real earning of the employed persons (R$ 2,032) stood stable over the quarter from June to August 2016 (R$ 2,027) and also in relation to the same quarter a year ago (R$ 2,041).
The only employment type with a drop in the average earnings in relation to the quarter from June to August 2016 was that of the self-employed (-2.7%). The other categories did not present any change. In relation to the same quarter of 2015, the employers had decrease in earnings (-5,9%) and the other categories were stable.
In the comparison with the quarter from June to August 2016, the only group of activity that recorded a change in the average usual real earnings was Agriculture, forestry and fishing (3.5%). Over the same quarter a year ago, this estimate remained stable in all groups of activity.
