PIA Product 2016: diesel fuel, beef, ethyl alcohol and petroleum are four major industrial products in Brazil

June 21, 2018 10h00 AM | Last Updated: June 28, 2018 05h52 PM

Among the 3,400 products investigated by the IBGE´s Annual Survey of Industry - Product, the four major ones (diesel fuel, fresh or cooled beef, denatured ethyl alcohol for fuel use and crude petroleum oil) generated 9.5% of the revenue of the industrial sales in 2016, which added up to R$2.17 trillion.

Among those 100 products with the highest revenue in 2016, the three ones that mostly gained share in the total industrial sales over 2015 were: body deodorants and antiperspirants, production services of parts and pieces of aircrafts and gasoline and/or alcohol vehicles for the transportation of goods, with maximum load capacity not above 5 tonnes. The three products that mostly lost share were concrete mass for construction, iron ores and portable computers (laptops, tablets and the like).

Diesel fuel, the major industrial product in Brazil, also led in the Northeast Region. In the North, iron ore was the mostly sold product. On the other hand, crude petroleum oil ranked in the first position in the Southeast. In the Central-West, fresh or cooled beef led the sales. Lastly, frozen poultry and giblets led in the South. PIA Product 2016 brings information on the sales of nearly 33 thousand industrial enterprises with 30 and more employed persons and their almost 40 thousand local branches.

Having sold R$74.4 billion and contributed with 3.4% to the total, diesel fuel maintained the leadership in the ranking of the value of sales in 2015 (table below), followed by fresh or cooled beef (R$46.1 billion and 2.1% of the total). The first four products in this ranking had a participation of 9.5% of the value of industrial sales in 2016.
