In November, services sector grows 1.0% over October

In the seasonally-adjusted series, the services sector grew 1.0% in November in relation to October, after declining 0.8% in October and 0.1% in September. In the seasonally-unadjusted series, volume of services changed -0.7% compared with November 2016, against -0.4% in October (revised) and -3.2% in September. Considering these figures, the cumulative rate in the year stayed at -3.2% and, in 12 months, at -3.4%.
Concerning seasonally-adjusted activities, only the segment of Other services did not register a positive change over October (0.0%). Services rendered to families and Information and communication services (both with 0.9%) recorded the highest growth, followed by Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (0.6%) and Professional, administrative and complementary services (0.2%). The special aggregate of Tourism activities rose 0.9% in relation to October.
The seasonally-adjusted variation of nominal revenue stayed at 1.2% in November over October and the seasonally-unadjusted variation over November 2016 stood at 4.3%. The cumulative rate in the year stood at 2.3% and, in 12 months, at 1.9%. The complete publication can be accessed here.

Compared with November 2016, volume of services retreated 0.7% with the positive contributions of Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (6.5%) and Services rendered to families (1.4%). These segments accounted for 1.8 percentage points (p.p.) and 0.1 p.p., respectively, of the overall index of the sector.
In order of contribution to the overall rate, the activities that had volume of services reduced were as follows: Professional, administrative and complementary services (-1.6 p.p), Other services (-0.7 p.p) and Information and communication services (-0.3 p.p.).
Acre, Rondônia and Mato Grosso led the rise in volume.
In the seasonally-adjusted regional figures, the biggest positive changes in volume over October were registered in Acre (6.6%), Rondônia (5.8%) and Mato Grosso (5.0%), whereas the biggest reductions were reported in Maranhão (-3.6%), Amapá (-3.3%) and Bahia (-2.9%).
In the seasonally-unadjusted comparison with the same month a year ago, Mato Grosso (56.0%), Paraná (7.3%) and Amazonas (3.2%) recorded the biggest positive changes. The biggest drops were reported in Amapá (-13.9%), Maranhão (-12.9%) and Pará (-10.6%).

Santa Catarina, Pernambuco and Goiás rise in tourism
In the seasonally-adjusted series, regional tourism activities posted positive changes in volume in Santa Catarina (4.7%), Pernambuco (4.3%), Rio de Janeiro (2.5%), Goiás (2.1%), Paraná (2.0%), Ceará (0.8%) and Espírito Santo (0.2%). São Paulo remained stable (0.0%), whereas the Federal District (-1.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (-1.6%), Minas Gerais (-0.5%) and Bahia (-0.3%) registered reductions.
In the seasonally-unadjusted series, the rises over November 2016 were registered in Pernambuco (11.9%), Goiás (8.6%), Santa Catarina (4.8%), Espírito Santo (2.6%), Paraná (2.5%) and Minas Gerais (2.1%). On the other hand, Rio de Janeiro (-16.9%), the Federal District (-16.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (-8.3%), São Paulo (-7.6%), Bahia (-3.0%) and Ceará (-2.3%) dropped.
