Services Sector down 1.0% in August

In August, the Services sector decreased 1.0% in relation to July, after the drop of 0.8% in July and a high of 1.3% in June, in the seasonally-adjusted series.

In relation to August 2016, in the non-adjusted series, the Services sector fell 2.4% and kept the downward trend started in April 2015. The cumulative rates in the year (-3.8%) and in 12 months (-4.5%) remained the same.

In the comparison with July, the services rendered to families interrupted a sequence of three months in row of growth and were the only activity with decrease in August (-4.8%). professional, administrative and complementary services (1.6%), Other services (1.0%), transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (0.7%) and information and communication services (0.3%) had positive changes.  The special aggregate of Tourism activities contracted 3.1%.

The nominal revenue in August dropped 0.6% in relation to July. In comparison with August 2016, the growth was of 2.0%. The cumulative rates in the year (1.7%) and in 12 months (0.7%) remained the same.

In the comparison with August 2016, there was decrease in four of the five activities surveyed: Other services (-9.0% and -0.7 percentage points), Professional, administrative and complementary services (-5.9% and -1.5 p.p.), Services rendered to families (-4.4% and -0.4 p.p.) and Information and communication services (-3.4% and -1.3 p.p.). Just the activity of Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing (5.3% and 1.5 p.p.) grew.

Alagoas, Paraíba and Amazonas had the greatest drops in services

Among the 27 Federation Units, the greatest decreases in services, in comparison with July, occurred in Alagoas (-5.9%), Paraíba (-3.6%) and Amazonas (-2.9%). The states with the biggest growth were Roraima (9.8%), Bahia (3.8%) and Piauí (3.5%).

 As to the results over August 2016, Mato Grosso (15.8%), Paraná (5.5%) and São Paulo (0.8%) were the positive highlights. The greatest drops were in the federal District (-13.3%), Paraíba (-12.7%) and Amapá (-12.2%). 

Of the 12 places surveyed, Tourism activities just grew in Espírito Santo

Against July, Tourism activities fell in 11 of the 12 places surveyed, except for Espírito Santo (1.2%): Pernambuco (-8.5%), Rio de Janeiro (-7.4%), Ceará (-6.8%), Santa Catarina (-6.1%), Goiás (-5.9%), São Paulo (-3.9%), Rio Grande do Sul (-3.1%), Paraná (-1.2%), Bahia (-0.7%), Federal District (-0.4%) and Minas Gerais (-0.1%).

In comparison with August 2016, there was growth in Tourism activities in: Espírito Santo (11.1%), Goiás (8.9%), Paraná (5.0%), Pernambuco (3.8%), Minas Gerais (1.5%) and Bahia (0.7%). The negative results were in: Rio de Janeiro (-32.4%), Federal District (-19.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (-11.3%), Santa Catarina (-4.6%), São Paulo (-2.5%) and Ceará (-0.4%).
