Services revenue changes 2.1% in July

In July, the services sector of the country registered a nominal growth of 2.1%, in the comparison with the same month a year ago, repeating June's rate and surpassing May's (1.1%). The cumulative rate in the year reached 2.2% and in 12 months, 3.3%.
In relation to July 2014, just the segment of Other services registered negative nominal change (0.8%). The positive nominal changes were: Professional, administrative and complementary services (3.5%); Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing activities (2.8%); Services rendered to families (2.5%) and Information and communication services (0.8%). The contributions to the rate were: Professional, administrative and complementary services (0.9 p.p.); Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing activities (0.8 p.p.); Services rendered to families and Information and communication services (both with 0.2 p.p.) and Other services (0.0 p.p.) (Table 2, below).

The segment of Services rendered to families had a nominal change of 2.5% in July over the same month a year ago. In June there was no significant change (0.0%) and in May there was a drop of -1.3%. The cumulative rate in the year stood at 3.0% and in 12 months, at 4.8%. The two activities in this segment, Lodging and food services and Other services rendered to families grew 1.8% and 7.7%, respectively. The latter includes: show business, creative and artistic activities; leisure, recreational and sporting activities (except clubs); laundry services, dry cleaners and towel cleaners; hairdresser and other beauty care; funeral activities and related services; other personal services (aesthetic clinics, lodging services, hygiene and training of pets, shoe shining and porter services, etc.); support activities for education and continuing education services (language, sports, art and culture and preparatory courses, etc.).
Information and communication services had a nominal change of 0.8% in July, always comparing with the same month a year ago, against -1.7% in June 
and -0.8% in May. The cumulative rate in the year was null (0.0%) and in 12 months, 0.4%. Information and communication technology services - ICT, which comprise telecommunication and information technology services, changed 0.5% and Audiovisual, publishing and news agency services, 2.8%.
Professional, administrative and complementary services presented a change of 3.5%, in July, below June's (5.9%) and May's change (5.5%), as shown in Graph 4. The cumulative rate in the year stood at 5.6% and in 12 months, at, 7.3%. Technical-professional services, which encompass knowledge-intensive services, increased 1.1% and Administrative and complementary services, which encompass labor-intensive services, grew 4.4%.
The segment of Transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing activities registered a nominal change of 2.8% in July, against 4.4% in June and 0.8% in May. The cumulative rate in the year stood at 2.6% and in 12 months, at 3.3%. In terms of mode, the figures were: Land transportation (0.9%), Water transportation (24.6%) and Air transportation (4.4%). The activity of Storage services, support activities for transportation and mailing activities registered a growth of 2.5%.
The segment of Other services had a negative nominal change of -0.8% in July. In June and May the changes were positive, 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively. The cumulative rate in the year stood at 0.3% and in 12 months, at 3.5%. This segment includes the following services: real estate activities (intermediation, management and administration of own and third-party properties); maintenance and repair services; financial support services; agricultural support services; sewage services and services of waste collection, treatment and disposal and recovery of materials.
RESULTS BY REGION
Regionally, in relation to July 2014, the greatest highs took place (30.8%), Tocantins (12.7%) and Pará (8.3%), and the lowest, in Minas Gerais (0.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (1.2%) and Rio de Janeiro (1.4%). There were negative changes in Amapá (-12.4%), Maranhão (-4.9%), Bahia (-4.9%), Amazonas (-3.7%), Espírito Santo (-2.9%), Sergipe (-2.2%), Federal District (-1.5%), Pernambuco (-0.7%), Paraíba (-0.6%) and Acre (-0.4%).
