Image maps provide an updated view of the territory, compatible with the requirements of the scale representation, and present the names of the geographic elements of greater relevance. The orthorectification process eliminates distortions in order to produce a metric and error free images. The production of image maps is carried out in a shorter time than complete topographic sheets, which allows these images to be made available more promptly to society.

The image maps were produced based on the images of the AVNIR-2 sensor, with a ten-meter spatial resolution and were captured between 2006 and 2010, mostly of them (91%) between 2009 and 2010. They integrate the project Cartographic Basis 1:100,000 (BC100) and correspond to one of the products projected for the Federation Units. With the 11 maps released today, Tocantins now counts on 125 image maps, out of 127 expected for the full coverage of the state. For Piauí, 108 image maps are expected and the 14 editions released today represent 12% of the target.
