* Seasonally adjusted series

In the seasonally-adjusted series, the quarterly moving average for the industry overall decreased 0.3% in the quarter which ended in November, compared with the level of the previous month, after recording positive results in September (0.4%) and October (0.1%). Seven areas recorde negative figures for the quarterly moving average and the most significant decreases were recorded by Ceará (-2.1%), Amazonas (-1.3%), Minas Gerais (-1.1%) and São Paulo (-0.9%). On the other hand, Bahia (2.1%), Pará (0.8%) and Espírito Santo (0.8%) recorded the main increases in November 2014.

In relation to November 2013, the industrial sector decreased 5.8%, with 11 of the 15 areas surveyed following this decline. The most significant decreases occurred in Amazonas (-16.9%), São Paulo (-9.9%), Minas Gerais (-8.5%) and Paraná (-8.0%), affected, mainly, bu the decrease of production in the sectors of computer equipment, electronic and optical products (television sets), beverages (syrup and powder preparations for the elaboration of beverages) and other transportation equipment (motorcycles and their parts and accessories), in the first location; food products (crystallized, VHP and refined sugar), motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (tractor-trucks for trailers and semi-trailers, cars, trucks and car pieces), machinery and equipment (motor graders, backhoes, parts and pieces for harvesting machines, agricultural tractors, wheel loaders and valves and faucets) and coke, oil derivatives and biofuels (ethyl alcohol, fuel oils, and naphthas for petrochemical industry), in the second; food products (VHP and crystallized sugar), machinery and equipment (travtors, wheel oladers and backhoes) and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (cars), in the third; and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (cars), tracter trucks for trailers and semi-trailers and trucks), food products (crystallized and VHP sugar) and machinery and equipment (tractor trucks and harvesting machines), in the last one.

Ceará (-6.8%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-6.5%) also recorded decreases below the national average (-5.8%), whereas in Rio de Janeiro (-3.6%), Santa Catarina (-3.4%), Pernambuco (-2.2%), Northeast Region (0.9%) and Bahia (-0.5%) complete the group of areas with negative rates in November 2014.

On the other hand, Espírito Santo (11.7%) recorded the most significant increase in the month, mainly affected by the positive performance of the mining and quarrying sector (pelletized iron ore and crude petroleum oils).

In terms of the cumulative index in the year, there were decreases in ten of the fifteen areas surveyed, and four of them recorded decreases below the average of industry (-3.2%): Paraná (-6.2%), São Paulo (-6.0%), Rio de Janeiro (-4.8%) and Amazonas (-3.8%). The folowing areas complete the group with negative results: Rio de Janeiro (-3.2%), Ceará (-3.2%), Bahia (-2.9%), Minas Gerais (-2.8%) and Santa Catarina (-2.0%). In these areas, the lowest dynamism was especially influenced by factors related to the reduction in the output of capital goods (especially those aimed at transportation equipment - tractor trucks for trailers and semi-trailers, trucks and vehicles for transportation of goods), intermediate goods (car pieces, textiles, steel products , metal products, basic petrochemicals, thermoplastic resins and pesticides) and durable consumer goods (cars, white goods, motorcycles and furniture).

On the other hand, Pará (8.8%) and Espírito Santo (5.0%) recorded the most significant increases in the month, mainly affected by the positive performance of the mining and quarrying sector (iron ore). In addition to those, Mato Grosso (2.9%) ,Goiás (2.3%) and Pernambuco (1.1%) also recorded positive rates in the cumulative index in the previous year.

In November 2014, the cumulative index in twelve months fell 3.2% and maintained the downward trend initiated in March (2.0%), recording the most significant negative result since January 2010 (-4.8%). Ten of the fifteen areas surveyed recorded negative rates in November, and eleven of them had lower dynamism in relation to October. The main decreases between October and November occurred in Amazonas (from -0.9% to -3.1%), Paraná (from -4.7% to -5.9%), Ceará (from -1.4% to -2.6%), Rio Grande do Sul 9from -3.4% to -4.4%) and São Paulo (from -5.0% to -5.9%), whereas Goiás (from 3.0% to 3.6%) and Espírito Santo (from 3.8% to 4.3%) recorded the biggest increases.
