IPCA of November stays at 0.51%

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) changed 0.51% in November, a higher result than the rate of October (0.42%). The cumulative rate of the year 2014 closed at 5.58%, and stood above the 4.95% of the same period of 2013. Considering the last 12 months, the index was at 6.56%, quite below the 6.59% relative to the twelve previous months. In November of 2013, the rate was 0.54%. The item meat, with 0.09 percentage points, remained, for the third consecutive month, ranking at the top of the major impacts. Prices increased 3.46% in November, more than they did in October (1.46%) and accumulated a high of 17.81% in the year. In the month, meat advanced 7.51% in the Metropolitan Area of Belém, followed by Campo Grande (6.03%) and Goiânia (5.87%). In the year, it was in Goiânia where prices increased the most, 24.12%, with Belém coming next, 22.95%. Besides meat, other food products became more expensive from one month to the other, with a highlight to potatoes, whose price rose 38.71%, reaching 75.49% in Salvador.

Thus, food and beverages, with 0.77%, recorded not only the highest change but also the highest impact of the group in the month, 0.19 percentage points, and accounted for 37% of November's IPCA:

Among the groups with growth in the change rate from October to November, the highlight is transportation, which moved to 0.43% due to fuels (1.64%). The price of the gasoline liter became 1.99% more expensive, reflecting part of the price increase of 3.00%, in force since November 7. Goiânia stood out, with a high of 7.95% in the month. So, with 0.07 percentage points, the second position in terms of impact belongs to gasoline.

Electricity, with a rise of 1.67%, also ranks among the major impacts, with 0.05 percentage points. The biggest changes were seen in Fortaleza (10.18%) and Salvador (6.97%), due to the increases in PIS/PASEP/COFINS, and in Rio de January (8.83%), where there was an increase of 17.75%, on November 7, in one of the concessionaires. The items house renting (0.60%), manpower (0.98%) and kitchen gas (0.56%) also pushed the group Housing, which stood at 0.69%.

Also in the group Housing, it is worth mentioning that water and sewage fees registered a change of -0.26% due to the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo, whose -1.27% result took into account the greater intensity of the Water Consumption Reduction Incentive Program, which grants users who reduce their water and sewage fees by 20% in a month a 30% discount.

Increases in the services of hairdresser (1.26%) and manicurist (1.10%) were the other highlights in the month, pushing up, together with excursion (1.39%), the group Personal Expenses  (0.48%).

In Health and Personal Care (0.42%) medical  and dental services  stand out (0.91%).

The groups Education (0.21%) and Communication (0.08%) also presented a result above of those recorded in the previous month, whereas household articles (-0.04%) and apparel (0.39%) stayed below it.

Among the indexes by area, the highest one was in Goiânia (1.21%), where fuels (7.84%) were responsible for 0.53 percentage points of the monthly index, with a high of 7.95% in gasoline and of 9.70% in ethanol. Besides, the 3.28% rise in the prices of food at home influenced the result. The lowest index occurred in Vitória (0.03%), with electricity bills 6.73% cheaper due to the shares of PIS/PASEP/COFINS.

It refers to families with monthly income of one to 40 minimum wages, whatever the source, and it encompasses ten Metropolitan Areas in the country, besides Brasília and the municipalities of Goiânia and Campo Grande. In order to estimate the index of the month, the prices collected from October 29 to November 27 of 2014 (reference) were compared with the prices in force from September 30 to October 28 of 2014 (base).

INPC changed 0.53% in November

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) recorded a change of 0.53% in November, staying above the 0.38% rate of October by 0.15 percentage points. As a result, the change of the year moved to 5.57%, above the 4.81% result relative to the same period of 2013. Considering the last twelve months, the index stood at 6.33%, below the 6.34% rate corresponding to the prior twelve-month-period. In November of 2013, INPC was at 0.54%.

Food products presented a high of 0.75% in November, whereas the non-food products stayed at 0.43%. In October, the results were 0.44% and 0.35%, respectively.

Among the indexes by area, the highest one was in Goiânia (1.27%) where fuels (7.97%) were responsible for 0.36 percentage points of the monthly index, with a high of 7.95% in gasoline and of 9.70% in ethanol. In addition, the 3.37% rise in the prices of food at home also influenced the result. The lowest index occurred in Vitória (-0.03%), with electricity bills 6.71% cheaper due to the shares of PIS/PASEP/COFINS.
