Stocking capacity rises in Brazil in second semester of 2013

The stocking network of agricultural products in operation in Brazil recorded a decrease of 0.3% in the number of active establishments, compared with the first semester of 2013.   In the second semester of 2013, this network comprised 9,185 active establishments, of which 4,145 were in the South Region, 2,029 in the Central-West, 1,979 in the Southeast, 722 in the Northeast and 310 in the North Region.

Total storage capacity in the country increased 0.8% in the second semester of 2013

The storage capacity of facilities likeconventional, structural and inflatable warehouses , amounted to 69, 148, 501 cubic meters, and, out of this total, a little more than 70.0% were concentrated in the Southeast and South Regions. The Central West held 15.8% of this type of storage whereas 12.! were located in the Northeast and North Regions.

Storage facilities classified as automated and bulk warehouses amounted to 58,143,717 metric tons of storage capacity, out of which 49.8% was held by the Central West and 32.5%, by the South. The Southeast Region had 10.35 of this type of establishment, whereas the Northeast and North Regions had 7.4%.

Grain silos had 61,435,826 metric tons of storage capacity in the country, and the South Region had 56.5% of this total, and the Central West and Southeast, 25.0% and 12.9%, respectively. Out of the overall figure, 5.6% were located in the Northeast ad North Regions.

The results for storage capacity, when compared with those of the first semester of 2013, recorded decrease of 0.4% in the storage capacity of conventional, structural and inflatable warehouses, and increases of 0.6% in the storage capacity of automated and bulk warehouses and of 1.7% in the storage capacity of silos silos. The total storage capacity in the country recorded increase of 0.8%.

Corn, wheat, soybean and coffee stocks increased more than 20%, whereas rice stocks fell in relation to that of Dec 31, 2012

The biggest stocks registered on December 31 2013 were those of corn grain (9,673,635 t), wheat grain (4,782,170 t), soybean grain (2,647,443 t), paddy rice (2,045,829 t) and coffee grain (1,439,789 t).

When compared with the stocks of the main existing products on December 31, 2012, the stocks of corn grain, wheat grain, soybean grain and coffee beans presented increases of 20.2%m 24.2%, 23.6% and 20.3%, respectively, whereas the stock of paddy rice fell by 13.4%.
