IPCA of September stays at 0.35%

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of September changed 0.35% and stood above the 0.24% rate registered in August by 0.11 percentage points.  Including September, the change of the year went to 3.79%, close to that of the same period in 2012, when it was at 3.77%. Considering the last 12 months, the index was at 5.86%, below the 6.09% index of the previous 12 months. In September 2012 the rate was at 0.57%.

As for the food products with falling prices in the month, the highlight was pinto beans, which became 13.95% cheaper and accounted for the main impact downwards, of -0.04 percentage points.  Other products also recorded decrease, as shown below:

 

In Housing, which changed from 0.57% in August to 0.62% in September, there were contributions from bottled gas (from 0.28% to 2.01%), residential rent (from 0.74% to 0.80%) and cleaning products (from 0.35% to 0.71%).  Even so there was rate decrease among important items for family budgets, such as: condominium fees (from 0.92% to 0.23%), manpower for small repair (from 1.08% to 0.60%) and electricity (from 0.57% to 0.36%).

Apparel items also accelerated from August to September, with increase from 0.08% to 0.63%, the main highlights being female apparel (from -0.37% to 1.43%) and footwear (from -0.11% to 0.58%), whereas the group Health and Personal Care remained at the same level as in the previous month, with 0.45% in August and 0.46% in September.

In the groups which recorded decrease of rates over the previous month, the items furniture (which changed from 1.22% in August to -0.19% in September) and repair of household appliances (from 1.16% to 0.84%) were highlights in Household Articles (from 0.89% to 0.65%).  In Personal expenses (from 0.39% to 0.20%), the highlights were recreation (from 0.80% to -0.24%) and domestic workers (from 0.53% to 0.46%).

Brasília registered the highest of all regional indexes (0.70%), where air fares, with contribution of 2.11% and change of 17.68% represented impact of 0.37 percentage points. The lowest index was that of Salvador (0.03%) due to food at home, which faced decrease of 1.17%. 

 

 Transportation recorded the biggest acceleration from August to September, having changed from -0.06% to 0.44%.  As a result, the impact in September was 0.08 percentage points whereas, in August, it had been -0.01, with a difference of 0.09 percentage points.  A highlight among the main impacts, air fares was a highlight, with 0.08 percentage points, considering the hike of 16.09%. Besides, urban bus fares are stable, differently from August, when there was decrease (-0.20%).  On the other hand, the liter of gasoline fell more than in August, and changed from -0.15% to -0.42%, whereas the liter of ethanol changed from -1.16% in August to -0.72% in September.

Food products and beverages also recorded increase, having changed from 0.01% in August to 0.14% in September, since food at home changed from -0.34% to -0.03% and represented a much less significant decrease from one month to the other. The main items recording hikes are listed below; the highlight was bread roll, which became 3.37% more expensive: 

IPCA has been calculated by IBGE since 1980. It refers to families with monthly income of one to 40 minimum wages, whatever the source, and it encompasses nine metropolitan areas in the country, besides the municipalities of Goiânia and Brasília. In order to estimate the index of the month, the prices collected from August 30 to September 30, 2013 (reference) were compared with those in force from July 30 to August 28, 2013 (base).

 

INPC changed by 0.27% in September

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) recorded chnge of 0.27% in September, above the result of 0.16% registered in August.

 As a result, the change in the year stayed at 3.61%, below the rate of 4.11% relative to the same period of 2012. Considering the last twelve months, the index was 5.69%, that is, below the 6.07% of the immediately previous twelve months.  In September 2012, INPC was 0.63%.

Food products recorded change of 0.05% in September, whereas non-food products recorded 0.37%. In August, the results were -0.14% and 0.29%, respectively.

Among the indexes by area, the biggest one was that of Porto Alegre (0.63%), where food products recoded change of 1.28%. The lowest index was that of Salvador (-0.06%) due the fall (1.16%) of food at home.
