The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), estimated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, recorded a change of 0.18% in January, dropping 0.25 percentage points in relation to December (0.43%). As a result, the cumulative index in 12 months ended in January 2013 stayed at 5.25%, lower than the rate of 5.68% registered in the latest 12 months. The index recorded 0.59% in January 2012.

 

The national cost of construction per square meter, which in December was R$ 855.64, changed to R$ 857.21 in January, R$ 455.09 relative to materials and R$ 402.12 to workforce.

 

In January 2013, materials and workforce decelerated against December 2012. By changing 0.29%, materials declined 0.07 percentage points compared with the previous month (0.36%), whereas workforce registered a deeper difference by declining from 0.51% in December to 0.07% in January, less 0.44 percentage points. The cumulative index in 12 months recorded 9.08% for workforce and 2.09% for materials.
