IPCA of November stays at 0.60%

In opposition to the pace loss in the price growth of the group food and beverages, four of the nine groups of products and services surveyed exerted an impact on this month’s IPCA:

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of November recorded a change of 0.60%, very close to the 0.59% rate recorded in October. The accumulated indicator in the year was at 5.01%, quite below the 5.97% rate of the same period a year ago.  Considering the last 12 months, the index was at 5.53%, above the 5.45% relative to the 12 immediately previous months. In November of 2011, the rate was at 0.52%.

Food products’ prices shrank from 1.36% in October to 0.79% in November, while non-food products posted an acceleration from 0.35% to 0.54%, keeping the similarity of IPCA's results from one month to the other.

 

Food products, with 0.79%, although still up, posted a deceleration in the growth rate, rising less than in the previous month, which recorded the highest change of the year until now, 1.36%. Meat (from 2.04% in October to 0.40% in November) and other products presented a reduction in the rate from one month to the other, some products became even cheaper:

The group transportation rose to 0.68% (0.24% in October) influenced by airfare. It costed, on average, 11.80% more in November and became the main impact of the month (0.06 percentage points), whereas, in October, the change was of 1.62%.  The group was influenced, as well, by gasoline, which came from 0.75% to 1.18%, by ethanol’s price, whose 0.04% change in October moved to 0.63% in November, and by new automobiles, coming from 0.32% to 0.52%.

The expenses with housing rose from one month to the other (from 0.38% to 0.64%), mostly due to electricity, which went to 1.38% in November after the 0.24% fall recorded in October. The rise came from the 6.01% change in Rio de Janeiro (due to the increase of 11.82% in the kWh of one of the enterprises) and of 4.93% in Belém’s accounts attributable to the rise in the PIS/PASEP/COFINS. Besides electricity, the other highlights were cooking gas (from 0.49% in October to 0.99% in November), condominium fees (from 0.29% to 0.45%) and manpower for small repairs (from 1.68% to 1.14%), which remained up despite the deceleration.

Just as housing, personal expenses also increased, changing from 0.10% in October to 0.53% in November. The main highlights were the items domestic workers, which recovered from the 0.16% drop in October to post a 0.66 rise in November, and tour, from 0.98% to 6.55%.

In the group household articles (from 0.37% in October to 0.47% in November), it is worth highlighting the group furniture, which went to 1.11%, after recording a 0.58% change in October.

As to apparel (from 1.09% in October to 0.86% in November) and health and personal care (from 0.48% to 0.32%), the results were below the ones seen in October, while education(0.05%) and communication (0.31%) stood with the exact same results as the previous months’.

About the regional indexes, the biggest was in Belém (1.27%) due to food products, which increased 2.16%, and electricity, whose change was 4.93% because of the rise in the PIS/PASEP/COFINS. The lowest index was in Brasília (0.35%), mostly due to used automobiles (-1.29%), coupled with the drop in the prices of gasoline (-2.05%):

 

IPCA has been calculated by IBGE since 1980. It refers to families with monthly income of one to 40 minimum wages, whichever the source, and it encompasses nine metropolitan areas in the country, besides the municipalities of Goiânia and Brasília. In order to estimate the index of the month, the prices collected from October 30 to November 28 of 2012 (reference) were compared with the prices in force from September 28 to October 29 of 2012 (base).

 

INPC changed 0.54% in November

 

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) recorded a change of 0.54% in November and stood 0.17 percentage points below the October’s result of 0.71% . The accumulated index of the year went to 5.42%, below the rate of 5.54% relative to the same period of 2011. Considering the last 12 months, the index was at 5.95%, below the rate relative to the immediately previous 12 months (5.99%). In November of 2011, INPC was at 0.57%.

 

Food products recorded a change of 0.80% in November, while non-food products increased by 0.43%. In October, the results were 1.51% and 0.38%, respectively.

 

About the regional indexes, the biggest was in Belém (1.24%) due to food products, which increased 2.07%, and electricity, whose change was 5.03% because of the rise in the PIS/PASEP/COFINS. The lowest index was seen in Brasília (0.13%), where food products became 0.03% cheaper in November. The price drops of used automobiles (1.29%) and of gasoline (-2.05%) also contributed to the lowest result of the index in the month:
