The regional output indicators showed that the growth in the intensity of the falling pace, observed in the national index between the first semester of 2012 (-3.1%) and the April-May 2012 period (-3.9%) – both comparisons against the same period a year ago - was also seen in ten of the 14 places surveyed.  In this kind of analysis, the greatest losses in dynamism were seen in Goiás (from 17.8% to 5.1%), Amazonas (from -2.0% to -12.8%), Bahia (from 8.0% to -0.7%), Espírito Santo (from -2.4% to -9.5%) and the Northeast Region(from 4.4% to -0.7%),whereas Goiás (from 17.8% to 5.1%), Amazonas (from -2.0% to -12.8%), Bahia (from 8.0% to -0.7%), Espírito Santo (from -2.4% to -9.5%) and the Northeast Region (from 4.4% to -0.7%) had the major pace gains between the two periods.

In the comparison to the same month a year ago, nine of the 14 places surveyed posted drops in the output in May 2012, with a highlight to the most significant losses occurred in Amazonas (-14.7%) and in Espírito Santo (-14.4%). In the former, the negative behavior of products associated to durable consumer goods stood out, with a highlight to the reduction in the production of motorcycles, air-conditioners, microwave ovens, cellular phones and watches, whereas the latter posted the sharpest fall in the sector of basic metals.   São Paulo (-6.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (-5.1%) also recorded contractions in the production above the national average (-4.3%). The other negative rates were recorded by Pernambuco (-2.2%), Minas Gerais (-2.1%), Rio Grande do Sul (-0.9%), the Northeast Region (-0.6%) and Bahia (-0.1%). On the other hand, Pará (6.2%), Paraná (5.5%), Goiás (4.9%), Santa Catarina (3.4%) and Ceará (1.0%) registered the positive results this month.

In the accumulated indicator of January-May 2012, the reduction in the production affected the greatest part (eight) of the 14 places surveyed, with a highlight to Rio de Janeiro (-7.1%), Amazonas (-6.5%), São Paulo (-5.6%) and Espírito Santo (-5.3%), all of them posting drops above the national average (-3.4%). Santa Catarina (-3.4%), Ceará (-2.7%), Minas Gerais (-1.4%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-1.2) closed the set of places with negative rates in the end of the first five months of 2012. In these places, the lowest dynamism was particularly influenced by the sectors related to the reduction in the output of durable consumer goods (automobiles, motorcycles, air-conditioners, cellular phones and watches) and of capital goods (particularly trucks, tractor trucks for trailers and semi-trailers and vehicles for the transportation of goods). Another relevant influence came from the lower production in the mining and quarrying sectors (iron ore), textiles, apparel, pharmaceutical articles and basic metals.  On the other hand, Goiás (12.4%), Paraná (6.1%), Bahia (4.3%) and Pernambuco (3.9%) signaled the most significant advances, especially due to the biggest output of medicine in the first place, books and didactic printing in the second, thermoplastic resins in the third and basic metals and non-metallic minerals in the last. Positive results were also registered in the following places: the Northeast Region (2.4%) and Pará (1.2%).

In May 2012, seasonally adjusted, the regional indexes of the industrial output posted a negative change in six of the 14 places surveyed, with a highlight to the sharpest losses recorded by Espírito Santo (-7.2%) and Pernambuco (-4.0%). The other negative rates were recorded in Amazonas (-2.8%), Minas Gerais (-1.5%), São Paulo (-1.5%) and the Região Nordeste (-0.8%). On the other hand, Goiás (6.5%), Pará (4.9%) and Ceará (2.9%) recorded the highest positive increases, whereas Paraná (1.5%), Rio Grande do Sul (1.3%), Rio de Janeiro (1.1%), Santa Catarina (0.9%) and Bahia (0.3%) recorded more moderate advances.
