National Index of Civil Construction changes by 0.66% in May

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), estimated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, recorded a change of 0.66% in May, a little higher than the result of 0.64% in April. Considering the period from January to May of 2012, the high is at 2.55%, while in the same period of 2011 it was at 3.20%. The result of the last twelve months was 4.98%, below the 5.86% recorded in the immediately previous twelve months. In May of 2011, the rate was 1.50%. The national cost of construction per square meter, which in April had been R$ 824.81, in May became R$ 830.28: R$ 446.56 relative to materials and R$ 383.72 to labor force.

Labor force presented a change of 1.36%, staying 0.10 percentage points below last month (1.46%). Concerning materials, there was a difference of 0.11 percentage points, coming from -0.04% in April to 0.07% in May. In the year, labor force increased 5.62%, whereas materials stayed at 0.05%. The accumulated indexes in twelve months were: 9.37% (labor force) and 1.47% (materials).

 

Southeast region registers the greatest monthly change: 1.41%

The Southeast region, with a rise of 1.41%, recorded the highest regional rate, pushed by the salary increase in São Paulo. The remaining regions presented the following results: 0.44% (South); 0.23% (North); 0.08% (Central-West) and 0.07% (Northeast).

The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$ 875.40 (Southeast); R$ 836.20 (North); R$ 819.92 (Central-West); R$ 818.32 (South) and R$ 782.01 (Northeast).

The Southeast region also stood out in relation to the accumulated in 2012, presenting the highest rate of the year, 3.85%. However, in the accumulated of the last twelve months, the South region recorded the greatest change, 6.50%.

 

São Paulo posts the highest rise: 2.58%

Due to the pressure exerted by the salary increase following a collective work agreement, São Paulo registered the highest monthly rate: 2.58%.
