In November, unemployment rate was 5.2%

The unemployment rate was estimated at 5.2%, the lowest rate since the beginning of the series (March of 2002). It dropped 0.6 p.p. in relation to the results of October (5.8%). Compared with November of 2010 (5.7%), there was a contraction of 0.5 percentage points. The unemployed population (1.3 million people) dropped 9.6% in relation to October. Compared with November of 2010, the rate records decrease of 7.9%. The employed population (22.8 million) grew by 0.7% over the October figure. In relation to November 2010, there was increase of 1.9%, what represented an increase by 431 thousand in a period of 12 months. The number of workers with an employment record card signed in the private sector (11.2 million) did not record any change in comparison with the October result. The annual comparison shows rise of 6.8%, representing more 708 thousand job posts with a signed employment record card in one year.
The average real income of the employment population (R$ 1,623.40, the highest figure for a month of November since 2002) did not change in relation to October. Compared with November last year, the purchasing power of the employed persons increased by 0.7%. The volume of real income (R$ 37.4 billion) increased by 0.6% in relation to that of October, and by 2.2% in relation to November 2010. The volume of real income effectively earned by the employed population (R$ 37.2 billion), estimated in October 2011, increased by 0.8% in the month and 1.7% in the year.

Unemployment records decrease in relation to October rate in Porto Alegre and São Paulo
Unemployment rate (proportion of unemployed persons in relation to the economically-active population, which is formed by the employed and unemployed persons) recorded decrease in comparison with October in Porto Alegre and in São Paulo (0.8 and 0.6 percentage points, respectively). In relation to November last year there was decrease in Recife (2.9 percentage points) and Belo Horizonte (1.1 percentage points) also. Rates remained unchanged in the other areas. In the metropolitan areas of Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo, unemployment rate reached its lowest level in the whole series.
The number of unemployed persons (those without a job who were trying to enter the labor market) was estimated at 1.3 million persons in the group of six metropolitan areas surveyed, having fallen by 9.6% in comparison with the October figure. Versus November last year, there was decrease of 7.9%. The analysis by area shows that the number of unemployed persons in relation to October recorded decrease in Porto Alegre (17.7%) and São Paulo (12.6%) and was stable in the other metropolitan areas. Compared to November last year, there was increase in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro (17.0%). Recife (35.9%) and Belo Horizonte (19.8%) recorded decrease, whereas no significant changes were observed in the remaining areas.
Employment level was 54.3%
The employment level (proportion of employed persons in relation to the persons at working age), estimated at 54.3% in the group of six metropolitan surveyed, increased by 0.3 percentage points compared with that of October, and remained unchanged in relation to November 2010. By area, in the monthly comparison, results remained stable in all the metropolitan areas, except Porto Alegre, where the indicator recorded increase of 1.1 percentage points. Compared with November last year, significant change occurred only in Rio de Janeiro (with a 1.9 percent increase).
The analysis of employment by activity group showed that, from October to November 2011, Construction was the only group to record increase, 4.3% (73 thousand persons). In the annual comparison, two groups of workers recorded increase: Construction, 8.8% (144 thousand persons) and Services rendered to enterprises, rents, real estate activity and financial mediation, 10.1% (345 thousand persons). The other groups did not record changes in the period.
In terms of annual comparison, average yield increases in two of the six areas surveyed
In the analysis by area, the average real income of workers (R$ 1,623.40 in the group of six metropolitan areas) increased in Recife (4.0%) and Porto Alegre (0.7%), when compared to October figures. There was decline in Belo Horizonte (0.6%) and stability in Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Compared with November 2010, the areas recording decrease were: Recife (2.0%), Rio de Janeiro (1.8%) and Porto Alegre (1.0%) and the ones recording increase, Salvador (7.8%) and Belo Horizonte (5.4%). The figure remained unchanged in São Paulo.
In the classification by group of activity, compared to October, there was increment in Mining and quarrying industry, manufacturing industry and distribution of electricity, gas and water (2.1%), Construction (0.7%) and Education, health, social services, public administration, defense and social security (2.5%).
There was decrease in Services rendered to enterprises, rents real estate activities and financial mediation (1.9%) and in Trade, repair of automotive vehicles and of personal and domestic use and retail trade of fuels (1.3%). There was stability in Domestic services and Other services. The annual analysis shows increment in and quarrying industry, manufacturing industry and distribution of electricity, gas and water (1.9%), Construction (3.4%), Domestic services (5.8%) and Other services (6.2%). Decrease was observed in Services rendered to enterprises, rents real estate activities and financial mediation (2.6%) and Education, health, social services, public administration and social security (2.8%). Figures remained stable in Trade, repair of automotive vehicles and of personal and domestic use and retail trade of fuels.
In the classification by categories of employment type, the biggest increase in the average real income usually earned versus that of November last year came from Workers with an employment card signed in the private sector (1.9%):
