The complete publication of IPCA-15 can be accessed at

IPCA-15 recorded deceleration in October (0.42%) over September (0.53%), mainly due to food products and beverages, which changed from 0.72% in September to 0.52% in October, and wearing apparel, from 1.00% to 0.38%.

Food products that are important for consumption, though remaining high, saw a reduction in the price pace of growth: pasteurized milk (from 2.64% in September to 1.43% in October), chicken (from 2.51% to 0.86%), fruits (from 3.70% to 0.84%) and meat (from 1.79% to 0.55%).

Some products such as leafy vegetables (from –1.23% to –3.11%), tomatoes (from –1.66% to –6.27%) and garlic (from –17.18% to –11.19%) registered a considerable drop in the month.

The non-food products changed from 0.47% in September to 0.39% in October.

Concerning the articles of wearing apparel, clothing for men recorded a drop of 0.13%, while the change in September was 0.73%.

The salaries of domestic personnel, which changed from 0.99% in September to 0.10% in October, and the result of personal expenses (from 0.52% to 0.22%) also contributed to the contraction of the index.

In addition, domestic appliances (from –0.03% to -1.09%), among other items, influenced the result of housing articles (from -0.05% to -0.57%) down.

As for air tickets in October, the available flights increased less, changing, on average, from 23.40% in September to 14.23% in October.

However, air tickets continued leading the main impacts of October on IPCA-15, with 0.07 percentage points. Still considering transportation (from 0.70% to 0.57%), the negative highlights were ethanol (from 1.95% in September to 1.17% in October) and gasoline (from 0.65% to 0.11%), with a deceleration in the rate.

Therefore, only housing (from 0.49% to 0.85%), under the influence of the water and sewage rate (from 0.89% to 1.73%), and health and personal care (from 0.40% to 0.47%) registered results above the previous month.

The results of all the groups of products and services surveyed are shown in the following table.

Among the regional indexes, the highest was in Brasília (0.77%), mainly due to the increase of air tickets (13.01%).

The lowest was in Belém (-0.12%), where food products decreased 0.26%. The following table shows the results by region:

In order to estimate IPCA-15, prices were collected from September 14 to October 13 and compared to those in force from August 13 to September 13 of 2011. The indicator refers to families with a monthly income of one to forty minimum wages and it encompasses the metropolitan regions of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, São Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador, Curitiba, and also Brasília and Goiânia.

The methodology is the same as the one used for IPCA; the difference is in the period of price collection.
