Unemployment rate was 6.0% in July

Considering the classification by employment type, the biggest increase in average real income usually earned  over July of 2010 was recorded by Workers without an employment record card in the private sector (12.2%).

In the classification by groups of activity, the biggest increase in average real income usually earned over July 2010 was the 6.1% of Trade, repair of motor vehicles and of personal and domestic objects and retail trade of fuels. 

The estimated unemployment rate was 6.0%, the lowest figure for a month of July since the beginning of the series (March 2002), and statistically stable when compared to the June result (6.2%). Compared to the figure in July 2010 (6.9%), there was decrease of 0.9 percentage points. The unemployed population (1.4 million persons) remained stable in relation to the previous month. Over July last year, there was a 12.1% decrease (200 thousand persons less looking for a job). The employed population (22.5 million) did not change significantly over June. Compared to July 2010, there was decrease of 2.1% of this estimate, representing increment of 456 thousand employed persons. The number of workers with a formal employment contract in the private sector (10.9 million) recorded increase of 1.2% over June. In the annual comparison, there was increase (7.1%), representing an increment in the number of positions with a formal employment contract (726 thousand new jobs).

The average real income usually earned of the employed population (R$ 1,612.90, the highest figure for a month of July since 2002) recorded hike of 2.2% in the monthly comparison and of 4.0% over July last year. The volume of real income usually earned (R$ 36.6 billion) was 2.7% above that recorded in June, and increased 6.0% in relation to July 2010. The real income earned by the employed population (R$ 36.2 billion), estimated in June 2011, rose 2.5% in the month and 6.0% in the year.

 Unemployment does not record significant changes in the monthly comparison 

 

The unemployment rate did not record significant changes in the metropolitan areas over the figures in the previous month. Compared to July 2010, there were decreases in Recife (3.7 percentage points) and in Salvador (2.5 percentage points):

 

In the monthly analysis, the number of unemployed persons showed a scenario of stability in all the areas surveyed. Over July 2010, there were changes in Recife and Salvador only, where the decrease reached 35.4% and 21.4%, respectively.

 

Employment level stays at 53.6%

 

The estimated employment level (proportion of employed persons in relation to the number of persons at working age) was 53.6% in the total six areas surveyed, a stable figure in comparison with that in June and also with July of 2010. In the monthly comparison, results remained stable in all the areas. Compared to July 2010, there was a significant change in Recife only; the indicator in this state rose by 2.4 percentage points (having changed from 44.7% to 47.1%).

 

The analysis of employment by groups of activities showed that, from June to July, there was change only in the group Domestic services, which recorded decline of 4.4%, and of Other services, with rise of 3.05. In the annual comparison, the number of workers in Construction and Services rendered to enterprises, rents real estate and financial mediation increased by 5.5% (90 thousand persons) and 7.3% (243 thousand persons), respectively.  The other groups remained unchanged in the period.

 

Annual comparison shows increase of average income in the six areas

 

In the analysis by area, the average real income usually earned by workers (R$ 1,612.90 in the group of six metropolitan areas) increased over June by 4.1% in Recife, 6.0% in Salvador, 2.8% in Rio de Janeiro, 1.7% in São Paulo, 1.9% in Porto Alegre and remained stable in Belo Horizonte. Compared to July 2010, there was increase in Recife (1,5%), Salvador (9.5%), Belo Horizonte (4.2%), Rio de Janeiro (6.2%), São Paulo (2.0%) and Porto Alegre (5.7%):
