In June, unemployment was at 6.2%

Conversely, in the classification by employment type, the highest increase in the real average income usually earned compared with June a year ago was for Workers without an employment record card in the private sector (12.3%):

The unemployment rate was estimated at 6.2%, the lowest rate for June since the beginning of the series (March, 2002), and it did not change significantly in relation to the results of May (6.4%). Compared with June of 2010 (7.0%) the fall was of 0.8 percentage points. The unemployed population (1.5 million people) was stable in relation to the previous month. In relation to June last year, it displayed a drop of 10.4% (less 172 thousand people looking for a job). The employed population (22.4 million) was stable in comparison with May. Against June of 2010, there was a rise of 2.3% in this estimate, accounting for additional 512 thousand employed persons. The number of workers with an employment record card in the private sector (10.8 million) did not record a significant change in relation to May. In the annual comparison, there was an increase of 6.2%, accounting for additional 634 thousand jobs with an employment record card.

 The employed persons’ real average income usually earned (R$ 1,578.50, the highest value for June since 2002), rose by 0.5% in the monthly comparison and by 4.0% compared with June a year ago.

The volume of real income usually earned (R$ 35.6 billion) was stable in relation to May and grew 6.2% in relation to June of 2010. The employed persons’ volume of effective real income (R$ 35.3 billion) estimated in May of 2011 was stable in the month and rose by 6.6% in the year.

The Monthly Employment Survey is conducted in the metropolitan regions of Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Porto Alegre.

Unemployment did not record significant changes in the monthly comparison

 The unemployment rate did not record significant changes in the metropolitan regions compared with May of 2011. Against June of 2010, lows were registered in Recife (2.5 percentage points), in Salvador (1.8 percentage points) and in São Paulo (0.8 percentage points): 

In the monthly analysis, the volume of unemployed persons remained unchanged in all metropolitan regions. Against June of 2010, there were drops in this volume in Recife (28.7%) and in Salvador (15.3%).

 

Employment level stays at 53.5%

 

Considering the employment level (proportion of employed people in relation to people in working age) estimated at 53.5% in the total of the six regions, there was no change in relation to May, but there was a rise of 0.6 percentage points compared with June of 2010. Regionally, in the monthly comparison, all the metropolitan regions remained unchanged.

Compared with June of 2010, there were significant changes in Recife (45.7% to 47.4%), in Belo Horizonte (56.4% to 57.5%) and in Porto Alegre (53.4% to 55.2%).

The analysis of employment by group of activities showed that, between May and June, all groups remained stable.

In the annual comparison, there was an increase of 6.4% in the volume of workers in the activities of Services provided to companies, renting, real estate activities and financial intermediation. The other groups of activities remained unchanged in this period.

 

In the annual comparison, average income increases in five regions 

In the regional analysis, the workers’ real average income usually earned (R$ 1,578.50 in the total of the six regions) rose by 2.0% in Salvador, 5.0% in Belo Horizonte, 1.2% in São Paulo and 2.4% in Porto Alegre.

It decreased by 3.4% in Rio de Janeiro and remained stable in Recife. Compared with June of 2010, there was a rise in Salvador, 4.7%, Belo Horizonte, 9.2%, Rio de Janeiro, 5.4%, São Paulo and Porto Alegre, 2.5%. In Recife there was a low of 0.4%:
