In the seasonally adjusted series, the employed population in industry remained stable since August 2010. In relation to November 2009, the personnel employed in industry increased 3.0% and reached the 10th month of growth in this comparison.  The accumulated in the year increased 3.4% in relation to the same period of 2009, and the accumulated in the last 12 months increased 2.9%. The number of hours paid increased 0.3% in the relation November/October 2010 and 3.6% in relation to November 2009. The accumulated in the year of hours paid increased 4.1%, and that of the last 12 months, 3.6%. The real payroll decreased (-1.3) in relation to the previous month, but increased 7.4% in relation to November 2009. The accumulated in the year for the payroll increased 6.9%, and that of the last 12 months, 5.7%.

 


 

In November 2010, industrial employment repeated the level of the previous month (0.0%) in the seasonally adjusted series, keeping the stability observed since last August. Still in the seasonally adjusted series, the quarterly moving average index also showed stability between the quarter ended in October and November (0.0%), practically repeating the level of the last two months: September (0.1%) and October (0.0%).

In comparison with the same period of 2009, the personnel employed in industry increased 3.0% in November, the 10th consecutive positive rate in this comparison. In the accumulated between January and November 2010 there was a 3.4%, rise, whereas the accumulated in the last 12 months increased 2.9% and kept the upward trend initiated in December 2009 (-5.1%).

In the confrontation November 10/November 09, industrial employment increased 3.0%, with highs in all the 14 investigated areas. The highlighted places in the formation of the overall rate were São Paulo (2.1%), the Northeast region (3.8%), Rio de Janeiro (7.0%) and Minas Gerais (3.6%). In industry in São Paulo, the most significant positive influences were given by means of transportation (9.0%), machinery and equipment (9.0%) and rubber and plastic (10.3%); in the industrial sector of the Northeast, impacts from footwear and leather articles (6.2%), apparel (6.4%) and non-metallic minerals (9.9%) were the most relevant; in industry in Rio de Janeiro, the highest gains were produced by food products and beverages (16.4%), metal products (18.0%) and means of transportation (9.2%); in industry in Minas Gerais, metal products (17.3%), means of transportation (12.9%) and the extractive sector (12.3%) made the main positive contributions.

Considering sector, in relation to the same month of the previous year, in the total of the country, major positive pressures were applied by machinery and equipment (9.8%), means of transportation (9.1%), metal products (9.3%), rubber and plastic (9.0%) and electronic and communication machines and appliances (8.7%). Among the six branches with decrease in salaried employed personnel, paper and printing (-7.5%), petroleum refining and alcohol production (-11.5%) and apparel (-3.2%) were the main negative impacts.

In the accumulated up to November 2010, the number of people employed in industry was 3.4% bigger than that of the same period of the previous year and had a generalized growth profile, reaching all investigated places and 14 of the 18 branches of industry. In highlight, São Paulo (2.8%), followed by the Northeast region (5.1%), the North and Central West regions (4.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (4.0%), Rio de Janeiro (5.6%), and Santa Catarina (3.4%). Still in this kind of comparison, in the total of the country, industrial employment increased in 14 sectors, with machinery and equipment (7.3%), metal products (6.8%), means of transportation (5.6%), electronic and communication machines and appliances (7.0%), footwear and leather (6.1%) and rubber and plastic (6.2%) exerting more significant positive pressures on the overall average, whereas apparel (-2.2%) and wood (-6.0%) marked the main negative results.

NUMBER OF HOURS PAID

In November 2010, the industrial sector expanded by 0.3% the number of hours paid in comparison with the previous month, discounted the seasonal influences, after two consecutive months of decrease, period in which it accumulated a loss of 0.9%. With these results, the quarterly moving average index decreased 0.2% in November, after having been stable in September and having recorded a small decrease in October (-0.1%).

In comparison to November 2009, the number of hours paid increased 3.6%, the 10th consecutive positive rate in this kind of comparison. In the indicator accumulated in the 11 months of the year, the total hours paid increased 4.1%. The index accumulated in the last 12 months went from 3.0% in October to 3.6% in November, keeping the upward trend initiated in November 2009 and achieving the highest rate in the time series.

In the comparison November 10/November 09, the number of hours paid increased in the 14 surveyed places, with the main positive contributions to the overall rate of 3.6% coming from São Paulo, with a 2.5% increase in the Northeast region (3.6%), from Minas Gerais (4.6%) and from the North and Central West regions (5.0%). In São Paulo, major positive pressures were exerted by machinery and equipment (12.8%), means of transportation (9.9%) and electronic and communication machines and appliances (8.7%); in the Northeast region, footwear and leather (7.7%) and apparel (6.1%) exhibited the most important expansions; in Minas Gerais, the highlights were gains from metal products (18.1%) and means of transportation (12.0%); in the North and Central West regions the highlights were sectors of metal products (43.5%), non-metallic minerals (20.5%) and electronic and communication machines and appliances (17.2%).

Still in relation to November 2009, there was increase in the number of hours paid in the total of the country, in most (12) of the 18 surveyed sectors, with highlights being the positive impacts applied by machinery and equipment (12,7%), means of transportation (9.5%), metal products (10.2%), electronic and communication machines and appliances (9.8%) and basic metallurgy (13.9%). On the other hand, activities paper and printing (-6.8%) and apparel (-3.2%) made the most relevant negative contributions in this kind of confrontation.

The accumulated of January-November 2010, against the same period of the previous year, kept a generalized increase, reaching all places and 14 of the 18 investigated activities. By sector, the most important positive impacts in the formation of the 4.1% overall rate were: machinery and equipment (9.5%), means of transportation (8.8%), metal products (7.7%), food products and beverages (2.3%), electronic and communication machines and appliances (7.4%) and basic metallurgy (11.6%). Inversely, industries of apparel (-2.2%), wood (-5.5%) and petroleum refining and alcohol production (-5.0%) gave the main negative influences in the total number of hours paid in production. Regionally, still in this kind of comparison, major positive contributions to the overall average were made by São Paulo (3.8%), the Northeast region (4.8%), the North and Central West regions (5.0%), Rio Grande do Sul (4.3%), and Rio de Janeiro (6.9%).

REAL PAYROLL

In November 2010, the value of the seasonally adjusted real payroll of industry workers decreased 1.3% in relation to the immediately previous month, after having increased during two consecutive months, accumulating an expansion of 1.6% in this period. With these results, the quarterly moving average indicator showed a slight positive variation (0.1%) in November, after having recorded a 0.5% fall in October.

In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the real payroll presented an expansion of 7.4% in relation to November 2009, the 11th consecutive positive rate, and of 6.9% in the accumulated index in the last 11 months of the year. The accumulated in the last 12 months, on an upward trend since December 2009, increased 0.9 p.p. between October (4.8%) and November (5.7%) and recorded the highest result since December 2008 (6.0%).

In November 2010, the value of the real payroll increased 7.4% in the monthly indicator, with positive rates in 13 of the 14 investigated places. The main positive contribution was made by São Paulo (5.1%), greatly pressed by the sectors means of transportation (10.4%) electronic and communication machines and appliances (12.9%); and food products and beverages (6.9%). It is also worth citing the positive influences of the Northeast region (11.2%), especially due to footwear and leather (24.2%), food and beverages (8.0%), and means of transportation (44.7%); Minas Gerais (10.2%), principally sustained by gains from the extractive industry (53.3%), stimulated by the payment of participation in profits and results, metal products (26.0%) and means of transportation (11.7%); Rio de Janeiro (10.1%), due to extractive branches (16.8%), means of transportation (7.5%) and food and beverages (10.8%). On the other hand, Espírito Santo (-5.5%) showed the only negative result, greatly pressed by the decrease in basic metallurgy (-42.9%), explained by the high basis for comparison, due to payment of participation in profits and results in November 2009.

By sector, still in the monthly indicator, the value of the real payroll increased in 16 of the 18 industrial sectors, with major positive influences attributed to means of transportation (12.8%), extractive industry (22.3%), machinery and equipment (9.0%), metal products (13.3%) and food and beverages (4.7%). On the other hand, the only two negative pressures came from paper and printing (-8.5%) and tobacco (-4.3%).

The accumulated in the year increased 6.9%, with expansion in the value of real payroll in 14 surveyed places. Major impacts were achieved in São Paulo (5.2%), Rio de Janeiro (9.7%), Rio Grande do Sul (8.8%) and North and Central West regions (9.2%). In these places, the major gains in the real payroll were produced respectively by means of transportation (4.5%) and electronic, computer and communication machines and appliances (13.1%); means of transportation (17.9%) and extractive industry (7.0%); machinery and equipment (17.1%) and means of transportation (16.1%); food and beverages (5.8%) and extractive industry (18.8%).

Considering sector, 16 of the 18 activities increased value of the payroll in the accumulated of January-November 2010, with highlights being gains come from means of transportation (8.4%), food items and beverages (5.6%), machinery and equipment (8.0%), electronic and communication machines and appliances (11.4%), and metal products (7.8%), which presented the main positive influences. Inversely, wood (-2.2%) and tobacco (-0.6%) remained with the two negative rates in this kind of comparison.
