In June 2001, in the group of six metropolitan areas investigated by the IBGE’s Monthly employment Survey, unemployment rate was 7.0%, reaching its lowest level for month of June in all the survey series, which started in March 2002. There was decrease of 0.5 percentage points in relation to May and by 1.1 percentage points in relation to June 2009.

 


 

The unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points in relation to May and 1.1 percentage points in relation to June of 2009. The unemployed population (1.6 million) dropped 6.6% in relation to May (minus 117 thousand people looking for a job) and dropped 11.8% in the year (minus 220 thousand people). The employed population (21.9 million) was stable in relation to May and rose 3.5% in relation to June of 2009. That was the lowest rate of the series for a month like June. The number of workers with a formal contract (10.2 million) was stable in relation to May and increased by 7.1% in the year (i.e. more 670 thousand jobs with formal contract).

 

The average real income of workers (R$ 1,423.00) increased by 0.5% in the month and by 3.4% in the year.

 

The volume of average real income of employed persons (R$ 31.4 billion in June 2010) increased by 0.5% compared to the figure in May and by 8.6% compared to the one in June 2009. The volume of effective average real income of employed persons (R$ 31.0 billion) was stable in the month and increased 6.3% in the year.

In the first semester of 2010, the estimated average unemployment rate was 7.3%, meaning decrease of 1.3 percentage points in relation to the fist semester last year (8.6%). By area, in the month, the unemployment rate of Belo Horizonte decreased by 0.7 percentage points, having changed from 5.8% in May to 5.1% in June, when it reached the lowest position in the series. In the year, there were decreases by 1.6 percentage points in Recife and in São Paulo, by 1.8 percentage points in Belo Horizonte and 0.9 percentage points in Porto Alegre.

 

Income

 

The average real income of workers (R$ 1,423.00) increased 0.5% in the month and 3.4% in the year. In the analysis by area, in relation to May, there was increase of rate in Recife (3.4%) and in Belo Horizonte (3.6%). There was decrease in Salvador (1.2%) and stability in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Porto Alegre. Compared to June last year there was increase in Recife (14.9%), Salvador (4.2%), Belo Horizonte (1.6%), Rio de Janeiro (6.5%) and Porto Alegre (9.2%) and stability in São Paulo.
