The Presidency of the Republic will release this Thursday, April 15, the Joint Statistical Publication by BRIC Countries.Organized by IBGE, the publication presents a social, economic and environmental panorama of Brazil, Russia, India and China, countries emerging as world powers that, in group, have become internationally known as BRIC. The launch will happen at 9 p.m., at Itamaraty Palace (auditorium Wladmir Murtinho), in Brasília, with the presence of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and heads of state of Russia, India and China. The president of IBGE, Eduardo Pereira Nunes, belongs to the Brazilian delegation present at the launch.

 

The publication results from a joint effort of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of Brazil, Russia, India and China, aimed at promoting wide information dissemination about these countries.

 

After the release, the Joint Statistical Publication by BRIC Countries will be available in English at IBGE website (www.ibge.gov.br), and the presented information is relative to 2005 and 2009. Among the main pieces of information dealt with in each theme are:

 

·         General information – area, capital, population density, currency

·         Consumer Price Index

·         Population characteristics – age, gender, growth indicators and life expectancy

·         Employment – economically active population; workers by economic activity and age groups; and unemployment

·         Gross Domestic Product – value; volume, expenses and growth index

·         Standards of living – salaries, education (enrollment and institutions, by grade), health, and characteristics of households (characteristics and types of existing equipment)

·         Environment – water resources, protection areas, gas emissions, GDP percentage invested in environment protection

·         Industry – production, consumption, export and import of electricity, production of selected goods (petroleum, gas, vehicles, TVs, refrigerators, apparel, etc.)

·         Agriculture – percentage of cultivated area, crops (grains, fruits, seasonings, etc.) and livestock (horses and related animals, hogs and pigs, buffaloes, etc.)

·         Transportation – road, rail and pipe networks, figures relative to means of transportation and traffic accidents

·         Information society – amount of computers per household, other information about access to information and communication technologies and newspapers in circulation

·         Finances – public revenues and expenses, interest rates, currency reserves and deposits into financial institutions

·         International relations – balance of trade, main export products and business partners
