In June, unemployment rate was 8.1%

The rate fell in relation to May (8.8%) and remained statistically stable compared to June 2008 (7.9%). The number of unemployed persons (1.9 million) decreased 8.3% in relation to the previous month and remained stable compared to the figure in June 2008. The employed population (21.1 million) increased by 0.8% in relation to last May and remained stable in relation to June 2008.

 

The number of workers with a formal contract (9.5 million) did not change in relation to May, but increased 2.2% when compared to June 2008. The average real income usually earned of workers (R$ 1,312.30 )did not change in the monthly comparison, but had increase of 3.0% in relation to the figure in June 2008. The real income received by the employed population (R$ 27.8 billion) increased 0.5% in relation to May and 2.8% in relation to June last year. The household income per capita (R$ 855.95) was statistically stable in relation to May and increased 2.5% in relation to June 2008. 

 

In June 2009, the estimated unemployment rate was 8.1% for the group of six metropolitan areas covered by the survey, presenting decrease of 0.7 percentage points in relation to May 2009. Compared to June last year, the rate does not present any significant change.

 

UNEMPLOYED PERSONS (PD)1      

 

The Monthly Survey of Trade showed decrease of 8.3% in the number of unemployed persons in the six metropolitan areas surveyed. In relation to June 2008, this estimate remained stable.

 

By area, there was decrease of 12.5% in relation to the previous month, in São Paulo. Compared to June 2008, there was increase in the metropolitan area of Recife (24.7%).

 

EMPLOYED PERSONS (PO)

 

The number of persons employed (21.1 million) increased in relation to May (0.8%) and was stable in relation to June 2008. There was increase in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro (1.3%) in the monthly comparison. Compared to June 2008, there was no significant change in any of the areas.

 

Results of the main groups of activity: 

 

Mining and quarrying industry, manufacturing industry and distribution of electricity, gas and water (16.4% of the PO) There was no change compared to may and decrease by 5.0% in relation to June last year. By area, in the monthly comparison, there was increase of 6.5% in Belo Horizonte. Compared to June 2008, there was overall decrease in Belo Horizonte (-7.3%), São Paulo (-6.9%) and Porto Alegre (-9.6%).

 

Construction (7.3% of the PO) There was stability in both periods of comparison. By area, there was no change in relation to the May figure. Compared to June 2008, there was increase of 17.4% in Salvador.

 

Trade, repair of automotive vehicles and of personal and domestic objects and retail trade of fuels (19.1% of the PO) There was stability in both comparisons, even by area.

 

Services rendered to enterprises, rents, real estate activities and financial mediation (15.3% of the PO) There was stability in both comparisons, even by area.

 

Education, health, social services, public administration, defense and social security (16.6% of the PO) Alta de 2,3% na comparação com maio e de 4,6% no confronto com junho de 2008. Regionalmente, altas em São Paulo: 5,2% em relação a maio último e 9,5% na comparação anual.

 

Domestic services (7.7% of the PO) there was stability in both periods analyzed. By area, there was decrease in Porto Alegre, -9.7% in the month and -10.7%) in the year.

 

Other services (lodging and feeding, transportation, storage and communication, urban cleaning, associate, recreational and sports activities, personal services) (17.2% of the PO) There was stability in both comparisons. By area, there was stability in the month and increase of 9.8% in Porto Alegre, in the year.

 

Analysis of the type of participation of workers in the labor market:

 

Workers WITH a formal contract signed in the private sector (except domestic workers, military and civil servants and others) (44.8% of the PO) There was stability in the monthly comparison and increase of 2.2% in relation to June 2008. By area, there was stability in the month. In the year, there was increase of 8.6% in Recife.

 

Workers WITHOUT a formal contract in the private sector (except domestic workers, military and civil servants and others) (12.9% of the PO) There was stability in both comparisons, even by area.

 

Military and civil servants (7.7% of the PO) There was increase of 4.1% in the month and stability in the year. By area, there was stability in both periods.

 

Own-account workers (18.5% of the PO) There was stability in both periods, even by area.

 

AVERAGE REAL INCOME2  

 

In June 2009, PME estimated as R$ 1,312.30 the average real income usually earned by workers. There was stability in relation to May and recovery of 3.0% in comparison with June 2008.

 

By area, in the month, there was increase in Belo Horizonte (1.6%), stability in Recife, Salvador and Porto Alegre, and decreases in Rio de Janeiro (-1.3%) and São Paulo (-0.4%). In the years, there was increase in five areas: Recife (0.5%), Salvador (3.7%), Belo Horizonte (10.0%), São Paulo (3.5%) and Porto Alegre (4.8%). There was decrease in Rio de Janeiro (-0.9%).

 

 


 

Income of categories of position in the MONTHLY comparison:

 

Workers with a formal contract signed in the private sector (R$ 1,234.00). There was decrease (-2.4%) in June 2009. There was decrease in Recife (-2.3%), Salvador (- 4.3%), Belo Horizonte (-1.4%), Rio de Janeiro (-0.5%), São Paulo (-3.0%) and Porto Alegre (-3.0%).                                                                                                                     

Workers without a formal contract signed in the private sector (R$ 885.80) There was stability. There was increase in Recife (8.0%), Salvador (4.6%), São Paulo (3.2%) and Porto Alegre (2.5%). There was decrease in Belo Horizonte (-6.8%) and in Rio de Janeiro (-10.5%)

 

Military and civil servants (R$ 2,268.80) There was increase of 0.6%

in June 2009. There was increase in Recife (2.2%), Salvador (1.7%), Belo Horizonte (7.2%) and Porto Alegre (2.7%). There was decrease in Rio de Janeiro (-0.8%) and São Paulo (-1.6%).

 

 

Own-account workers (R$ 1,128.60) There was increase of 2.7% in June 2009.  There was increase in Recife (0.8%), Belo Horizonte (3.0%), Rio de Janeiro (4.4%) and São Paulo (3.7%). There was decrease in Salvador (-7.3%) and Porto Alegre (-1.5%).

 

 

 




Income of categories of position in the ANNUAL comparison:

 

 

Workers with a formal contract signed in the private sector There was increase of 2.1% in the year. There was increase in Recife (5.9%), Salvador (2.5%), Belo Horizonte (2.0%), Rio de Janeiro (5.4%), São Paulo (0.5%) and Porto Alegre (3.7%).

Workers without a formal contract signed in the private sector There was increase of 5.4%. There was increase in Recife (7.9%), Salvador (16.2%), Belo Horizonte (5.1%), São Paulo (12.2%) and Porto Alegre (7.0%) and decrease in Rio de Janeiro (-16.4%).

 

Military and civil servants There was increase of 3.9%. There was increase in Belo Horizonte (16.9%), Rio de Janeiro (9.7%) and Porto Alegre (8.6%). There was decrease in Recife (-5.7%), Salvador (-8.1%) and São Paulo (-2.8%).

 

Own-account workers There was increase of 3.8%. There was increase in Recife (0.4%), Salvador (0.7%), Belo Horizonte (10.6%), São Paulo (15.3%) and Porto Alegre (3.7%). There was decrease in Rio de Janeiro (-9.6%).

 

AVERAGE REAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME PER CAPITA

 

 

In June 2009, the estimated average real household income per capita was R$ 855.95. There was stability in relation to May and increase of 2.5% compared to the result of June 2008. In relation to may, there was increase in Belo Horizonte (2.9%) and Porto Alegre (1.3%), and decrease in Recife (-2.2%), Salvador (-0.5%), Rio de Janeiro (-0.5%) and São Paulo (-0.9%). Compared to June 2008, there was recovery in Recife (1.6%), Salvador (0.4%), Belo Horizonte (10.3%), São Paulo (4.5%) and Porto Alegre (4.3%). There was decrease in Rio de Janeiro (-3.3%).

 

 

 


 

VOLUME OF REAL INCOME USUALLY EARNED BY THE EMPLOYED POPULATION

 

The estimated volume of real income usually earned by the employed population was R$ 27.8 billion, according to the Monthly Employment Survey of June 2009 (reference month: May 2009), in the group of six metropolitan areas. There was increase of 0.5% in relation to last April and of 2.8% compared to May 2008.

 

In comparison with last April, there was decrease in Recife (-1.0%). The opposite occurred in Belo Horizonte (2.2%), São Paulo (0.6%) and Porto Alegre (0.4%). There was stability in Salvador and in Rio de Janeiro. In relation to May 2008, there wad decrease in Recife (0.5%), Salvador (6.7%), Belo Horizonte (10.8%), São Paulo (3.5%) and Porto Alegre (1.7%). There was decrease (-2.2%) in Rio de Janeiro in the analysis by year.
