IPCA-15 of October was 0.30%

The Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15) changed by 0.30% in October, and was slightly above the figure in September (0.26%). With this result, the index accumulated in the year was 5.28%, above that of the same period in the previous year (3.40%); the index accumulated in the last twelve months was 6.26%, slightly above that in the immediately previous twelve months (6.20%).

In spite of the falling movement observed in the last few months in the prices of food products, some products rose and led to increase of the result of Food products and beverages, from -0.25%, in September, to 0.05%, in October. Some products contributed to this result, especially rice, changing from 1.67% in September to 0.19% (in October), and “carioca” beans, from -4.24% to 3.29%.

 

Meats (from 0.63% to 1.44%), chicken (from 1.96% to 1.91%) and meals taken out of the household (from 0.29% to 1.04%) remained with rising rates. Pasteurized milk had less significant fall, and changed from -4.48% (September) to -2.80% (October). Among the products which had decrease of prices from one month to the other, the highlights were: onions (from 6.11% to -22.63%), potatoes (from -8.84% to -11.23%), carrots (0.08 to -9.27%) and soybeans oil (from -4.08% to -4.70%). With the October result, the group food products accumulated change of 10.57% in the year, significantly above the result in the same period last year (7.95%).

 

Considering non-food products, the change of 0.37% in October was lower than that in September (0.41%). However, this result was affected by the rise of 1.11% in the item “salary of domestic workers”, which accounted for the major contribution to the monthly index (0.03 percentage points). It is also worth mentioning the following items: residential rents (0.86%), cigarettes (1.18%), apparel (1.245), water and sewage rates (1.37%), household repair articles (1.89%).

  

In relation to the areas surveyed, Fortaleza (0.56%) had the most significant change, due to the result of the group food products (0.80%), with the highest result among the areas. The lowest result was that of Brasília (-0.29%). See the results by area below:

  

IPCA-15 refers to prices collected from September 13 to October 13, which were compared to those in effect between August 14 and September 12.
