The Extended National Consumer Price Index -15 (IPCA-15) increased in the month of September by 0.26%. The result was 0.09 percentage points below the one of August (0.35%). With this number, the Special Extended National Consumer Price Index - IPCA-E of the quarter which is constituted by the IPCA-15 accumulated in the months of July, August and September, brought a result of 1.24%, above the one of the same period of 2007 which had been 0.95%. In the index accumulated in the year and in the index accumulated in the last 12 months, the percentages were 4.96% and 6.20%, respectively.
From August to September, food products (from 0.25% to -0.25%) were the main responsible by the reduction in the rhythm of growth of the IPCA-15. The majority of the products contributed to this result, especially tomatoes (-38.41%), pasteurized milk (-4.48%), potatoes (-8.84%), carioca beans (-4.24%), bread rolls (-1.08%), soybean oil (-4.08%), rice (-1.67%), noodles (-1.50%) and black beans (-2.76%). With the result of September, the group Food Products and Beverages reached hike of 10.52% in the year.
Among the products which hike of prices from one month to the next, the highlights were: meals consumed outside home (from 0.94% to 1.48%), fruits (from 0.65% to 3.70%), beer (from 0.79% to 1.30%) and onions (from 1.49% to 6.11%).
The decrease in the prices of food products which occurred in September was observed in the majority of the surveyed areas, especially Recife (-0.88%), the main negative change. Following we may see the results of the group by area.
Regarding non-food products, the change was from 0.38%, in August, to 0.41% in September. Among the nine groups which form the IPCA, including food products, three had decrease in prices. Below we may observe the results of IPCA-15 by group of products.
Among the items which influenced the rate of September, the highlights were cigarettes (3.67%), fixed telephone (0.85%), continuing to be influenced by the authorized readjustment by the National Agency of Telecommunications (Anatel) in the end of July, household employees (0.94%) and water and sewage account (1.05%), as a consequence of increases which occurred in the metropolitan areas of Rio de Janeiro (6.88%) and São Paulo (0.35%). Also had hikes residential rents (0.62%), condominium maintenance fees (0.66%), personal care products (0.90%), cleaning products (1.66%), hairdresser (1.06%) and gasoline (0.30%).
In relation to the areas surveyed, Goiânia (0.66%) brought the major change due to the increase of gasoline and alcohol with the following results: 10.44% and 16.54%. The lowest result was observed in Brasília (-0.29%). Below we may see the results by areas.
IPCA-15 refers to prices collected in the period August 14 to September 12, which are compared to those charged between July 15 and August 13.
