Positive scenario in the period had seven areas with results above the national average (6.3%).  With two-digit rates stood out: Espírito Santo (16.1%), Paraná (11.3%) and Goiás (11.1%).  Following with results above the national average were São Paulo (9.8%), Pernambuco (7.9%), Amazonas (7.5%) and Minas Gerais (6.6%).  Overall expansion was also registered in the quarterly analysis, although nine areas reduced the rhythm of production.  Between May and June, in the series with seasonal adjustment, ten localities grew.

The results of June showed a positive scenario for the regional industrial production.  The expansion of the activity in national level, in the closure of the first semester of 2008 (6.3%), reached the fourteen surveyed localities, with seven recording levels above the average.  The highlight, in terms of magnitude of the rate, was Espírito Santo (16.1%), followed by Paraná (11.3%), Goiás (11.1%), São Paulo (9.8%), Pernambuco (7.9%), Amazonas (7.5%) and Minas Gerais (6.6%).  In the majority of these localities, the pattern of growth is the one observed for the total Brazilian industry during 2008, once the industrial segments have a strong influence of the producing sectors of capital goods and durable consumer goods, besides the high production of exporting commodities.  The other results were: Pará (6.1%), Northeast and Bahia (both with 4.6%), Rio Grande do Sul (4.4%), Ceará (2.6%), Rio de Janeiro (2.3%) and Santa Catarina (1.3%).

In the analysis by quarters, all the localities had positive rates in the comparison of the second quarter of 2008 with the same period of 2007.  In national level, the productive rhythm continued from the first quarter of 2008 (6.3%) to the second one (6.2%). São Paulo, with the most diversified industrial structure among the localities surveyed, gained rhythm between the first and second quarter: 9.1% in the first and 10.4% in the second.  On the other hand, nine among fourteen areas surveyed had reduction of rhythm between these two periods.  Pernambuco, from 13.9% to 1.0%, and Amazonas (from 11.7% to 3.6%) brought the most pronounced losses, while Espírito Santo (from 14.4% to 17.8%), Goiás (from 9.9% to 12.3%), Paraná (from 10.2% to 12.3%) and Ceará (from 4.4% to 0.9%) registered the major gains.  In the indexes of June compared to the same month of 2007 the scenario also was positive, once eleven among fourteen localities surveyed had expansion.  The positive rates ranged from 16.6% in Goiás to 1.8% in Pernambuco.  Above the national average (6.6%), the highlights besides Goiás were Paraná (12.7%), Espírito Santo (11.4%), São Paulo (10.3%) and Pará (7.2%).  The other positive results were: Minas Gerais (6.3%), Rio Grande do Sul (5.4%), Rio de Janeiro (4.2%), Ceará (4.0%), Amazonas (3.2%) and Pernambuco (1.8%).  The localities which registered decrease in the production in this type of comparison were: Santa Catarina (-2.0%), Bahia (-1.3%) and Northeast (-0.7%).

From May to June, ten among fourteen localities surveyed had positive rates, in the series seasonally adjusted. Rio Grande do Sul (6.5%) and Ceará (5.7%) had the most pronounced increases.  Both of them had presented two consecutive falls in the two preceding months, period in which they accumulated decreases of 5.8 and 10.3%, respectively.  Goiás (4.0%) and São Paulo (2.8%) were the other localities which increased above the national average (2.7%).  Among the four areas which registered decrease in the production, the major losses came from Bahia and Espírito Santo, both with a decrease of 2.9% between May and June.

With the acceleration in the productive rhythm of the industrial sector in June, the quarterly moving average index for the national total increased by 0.8% between May and June, after remaining stable in  the two previous months. In regional terms, nine among fourteen localities surveyed followed this movement, standing out the increase observed in Goiás (1.8%), São Paulo (1.1%), Minas Gerais (1.0%) and Paraná (0.9%).
