IPCA of November changed by 0.38%

The change was above the rate of October (0.30%).  In the index accumulated in the year 2007, IPCA was 3.69%, above the same period of 2006 (2.65%).  The indicator accumulated in the last 12 months was 4.19%, slightly above the result registered in the 12 immediately previous months, 4.12%.  In November 2006, the index had been 0.31%.  The main responsible for the hike of the IPCA, from October to November, was the group Food products and Beverages with changed 0.73%.  The major individual contribution for the index (0.10 percentage points) came from the item meats, which increased 5.71%.

The major increases in the item meats, in November, were recorded in Brasília (10.03%) and Goiânia (9.19%).  Beans (23.13%, the carioca, and 10.87%, the black) also influenced the IPCA.  Pasteurized milk (- 6.84%) brought the lowest individual contribution, however accumulated hike of 18.93% in the year.  Other products turned more expensive.  The highlights were the following:

Non-food products had acceleration from 0.24%, in October, to 0.28%, in November.

Gasoline also influenced the index, changing 0.64%, above the result of October (0.36%), as a consequence mainly of the increases in Porto Alegre (4.10%) and Belo Horizonte (2.36%).  The hike of alcohol in November was 5.29%, with increases relatively high in some areas: Goiânia (9.26%), São Paulo (8.65%) and Brasília (8.36%).

Medicines also increased (from 0.36%, in October, to 0.53%, in November), with major changes recorded in the metropolitan areas of Belém (1.79%) and Curitiba (1.21%). 

The item cigarette changed 1.08%, in November, due to the readjustment which occurred in November 26. 

Apparel fell from 0.72%, in October, to 0.55%, in November, due mainly to feminine clothes, which changed from 0.66% to 0.30%.

Among the indexes by areas of November, the major one was registered in Goiânia (0.65%), where food products increased 1.46%, besides fuel alcohol, which increased 9.26%.  The lowest result came from Fortaleza (0.06%).

 The IPCA is calculated by the IBGE since 1980.  It refers to families with monetary income, from any source, ranging from 1 to 40 minimum wages, and includes nine metropolitan areas of the country, besides the municipality of Goiânia and Brasília.  To calculate the index of this month, prices collected between October 27 and November 26 (reference period) were compared to those charged between September 28 and October 26 (base period). 

INPC changed by 0.43% in November

The result of November (0.43%) also was higher than the one of October (0.30%).  With the index of November, the index accumulated of 2007 was 4.15%, considerably above the rate of the same period of 2006 (2.18%).  The indicator accumulated in the last 12 months was 4.79%, equivalent to the result relative to the 12 immediately previous months (4.78%).  In November 2006, INPC had changed 0.43%.

In November, food products changed by 0.90%, while non-food products increased 0.24%.  The major index by areas was recorded in Goiânia (0.74%) and the lowest in Curitiba (0.18%).

 The INPC is calculated by the IBGE since 1979 and it refers to families headed by a salaried worker with monetary income ranging from one to six minimum wages.  It includes nine metropolitan areas, besides the municipality of Goiânia and Brasília.  To calculate the index of the month, prices collected from October 27 to November 26 (reference period) were compared to prices charged from September 28 to October 26 (base period).
