From June to July 2007, there was increase of industrial production in eight of the fourteen areas surveyed, in the seasonally adjusted series. In comparison with July 2006, industry grew in eleven areas, according to IBGE’s Monthly Survey of Regional Industry. The industries of São Paulo and Minas Gerais followed the acceleration of the production rhythm of national industry, which occurred between the first two quarters of the year continued in July. Considering the indicator accumulated in the year, there were positive results in thirteen areas.

In July 2007, the seasonally adjusted indexes of regional industrial production increased in eight of the fourteen areas surveyed; the highest results were obtained in Bahia (4.6%), Goiás (4.3%), Pará (2.3%) and Espírito Santo (2.2%). Also with positive, but less significant rates were: Rio Grande do Sul (0.5%), Minas Gerais (0.4%), Paraná (0,4%) and the Northeast Region (0.3%). On the other hand, the results for São Paulo (-0.3%), which has the most important industrial park in the country, were similar to the national average (-0.4%). With negative results also feature Ceará (-5.8%), (%), Pernambuco (-4.2%), Amazonas (-1.7%), Santa Catarina e Rio de Janeiro (both with -0.8%).

In the comparison July 2007/July 2006, the indexes were predominantly positive, with increase of production in eleven areas, a result probably affected by the existence of one more business day in July 2007. The main highlights in this case were Minas Gerais (11.4%), Paraná (10.4%), Rio Grande do Sul (8.5%), Bahia (7.7%) and Espírito Santo (6,8%). With positive results also feature São Paulo (6.7%), Santa Catarina (5.8%), Northeast Region (4.4%), Pernambuco (3.3%), Pará (1.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.4%). Amazonas and Goiás had null increase in this type of comparison, whereas Ceará (-4.7%) was the only area facing decrease in July.

The national industry had acceleration of the production rhythm throughout 2007: 3.8% in the first quarter of 2007; 5.7%, in the second; and 6.8% in July. With continuous gains of rhythm between these periods are: São Paulo, with rates of 2.9%, 5.1%, 6.7%; and Minas Gerais, with 5.9%, 9.9% and 11.4%, respectively.
