IPCA-15 changed by 0.42% in August

The National Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA-15) changed by 0.42% in August and was above the rate of 0.24% registered in July.
The National Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA-15) changed by 0.42% in August and was above the rate of 0.24% registered in July. With this, it accumulated 2.85% in the year and 3.95% in the last 12 months.
Food products were responsible for 0.34 percentage points in the rate of 1.61%, and continued to bring influence on the index. Once more, stood out the item milk products, whose hike reached 10.62%. It was the major contribution of the month: 0.23 percentage points. In period of low supply, pasteurized milk was 13.91% more expensive. With this, the consumer began to pay more, also for powdered milk (9.85%), cheeses (6.02%) and yogurt (5.31%). Considering the year, it can be observed that the prices of pasteurized milk increased already by 52.16%. Besides milk products, the consumer is paying more, also, for other food products: meats (4.21%), tomatoes (4.01%), carioca beans (2.77%), bread rolls (1.86%) and poultry (1.66%).
Regarding non-food products, they decreased by 0.10%, considerably below the IPCA-15 of the month. Important expenditures in the budget of the families were reduced. It is case of electricity which fell by 2.45% and had the most intense negative contribution of the month (-0.09 percentage points). The reduction of electricity was caused, mainly, by tariffs of the metropolitan area of São Paulo, which were 12.66% cheaper since July 04, resulting in decrease of 7.64% in August in the account of the consumer of the region. Fuels (-1.04%) also continued decreasing, with reduction of 5.65% in the price liter of alcohol and 0.70% in the liter of gasoline. Apparel also decreased by -0.23%.
Among the indexes by areas, the major result was registered in the metropolitan area of Fortaleza (1.04%). Brasília (0.08%) had the lowest result.
