National index of construction changed by 0.43% in January

The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed by 0.43% in January; the index is 0.05 percentage points below the one registered in December (0.48%). With this result, the index accumulated in twelve months was 6.68%. In relation to January 2005 (0.71%), the current index (0.43%) fell by 0.28 percentage points.
The national cost per square meter changed to R$ 545.47, being R$ 319.04 relatively to material and R$ 226.43 to manpower. In January, material increased by 0.55%, which means, 0.33 percentage points above the change registered in December/05 (0.22%). On the other hand, manpower, with 0.27%, registered deceleration of 0.58 percentage points in relation to the previous month (0.85%).
In the last twelve months, the accumulated indexes were 6.17% for material and 7.40% for manpower.
Northeast Region recorded the highest monthly index
The Northeast Region had the highest regional index in January (0.88%), a result influenced by wage readjustments in the states of Maranhão and Piauí. The other regional results were considerably lower: 0.40% in the North; 0.34% in the Southeast; 0.23% in the Central West and 0.09% in the South.
The North Region, with 7.77%, recorded the highest accumulated index in twelve months. The other accumulated indexes in this period were: 7.25% (Northeast); 6.50% (Southeast); 6.31% (South) and 5.56% (Central West).
Among the states, Maranhão and Piauí stood out
With the wage readjustments for the professional categories of construction, the state of Piauí registered the highest monthly index (3.98%), followed by Maranhão (3.26%). The lowest change in January (0.06%) came from Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul.
The states of Amapá and Piauí presented the highest accumulated indexes in twelve months: 11.20% and 10.01%, respectively.
