National Index of Construction changed by 0.48% in December and by 6.98% in the year

The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, increased by 0.49% in December, and was 0.22 percentage point above the November figure (0.26%).
The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, increased by 0.49% in December, and was 0.22 percentage point above the November figure (0.26%). With this result, the 2005 index was 6.9%, 3.97 percentage points below the index accumulated in 2004 (10.95%). This deceleration was a consequence of the behavior of construction material, down from 13.94% to 6.38%, in 2005. In comparison with December 2004 (1.08%), the fall was 0.60 percentage points.
The national cost by square has been R$ 543.13 since December - R$ 317.30 of which are relative to material and R$ 225.83 to manpower. In December, the contribution from construction material increased by 0.22%, meaning deceleration of 0.18 percentage points in relation to November (0.40%),opposite to manpower, which, having changed by 0.85%, surpassed the November rate (0.06%) by 0.79 percentage points.
As previously mentioned, construction material was down 7.56 percentage points in 2005. On the other hand, manpower expanded by 0.87 percentage points, accumulating 7.83% in 2005, versus 6.96% in 2004.
Northeast Region had the major hike
The Northeast region was the highlight in December, with change of 0.67% in the national index, a result affected by salary readjustments in Pernambuco. The Southeast region index presented the second major change (0.58%), also a consequence of salary readjustments, in this case, in Minas Gerais. The remaining monthly changes were: 0.48% in the North; 0.19% in the Central west region and 0.09% in the South region.
The North region ended the year with the highest accumulated index (9.30%), being followed, in decreasing order, by the Northeast (7.33%); South ( 6.71%); Southeast (6.62%) and Central West regions (6.08%).
The costs by region were: R$ 581.40 (Southeast); R$ 547.48 (South); R$ 525.55 (North); R$ 517.22 (Central West) and R$ 497.74 (Northeast).
Among the states, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais and Amapá were the highlights
Reflecting the readjustments in manpower, Pernambuco (2.58%); Minas Gerais (2.48%) and Amapá (2.05%) registered the highest monthly changes. The remaining state indexes ranged from 0.01% (Rio de Janeiro) to 0.58% (Pará).
