National index of construction was 0.26% in October

The National Index of Construction, calculated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA ECONOMICA FEDERAL, changed by 0.26% in October, which represented an increase of 0.12 percentage points in relation to September (0.14%). In the year, the accumulated index was 6.19% and in the last twelve months 8.49%. The national cost per square meter was R$ 539.13, being R$ 315.34 relative to construction material and R$ 223.79 to labor force.
In comparison with October 2004 (0.74%) there was a decrease of 0.48 percentage points. The accumulated indexes of the year and in the last twelve months were also below the observed rates in similar periods of the previous year (8.60% and 10.20%).
Construction material increased by 0.33% and remained 0.09 percentage points above the index of September (0.24%). Labor force also increased more pronouncedly in October, with a hike of 0.15% against 0.01% in September (plus 0.14 percentage point).
In the year, construction material increased by 5.73%. This value is significantly lower than the one observed in the similar period of 2004 (10.88%). Regarding labor force, the accumulated index was 6.85%, against 5.55% of 2004. In the last twelve months the following changes were observed: 8.64% (construction material) and 8.28% (labor force).
North Region had major index
Influenced by the result in Pará, the North Region had the major hike (0.96%) in October. Following, with lower indexes, Northeast (0.33%) and South (0.30%). Central West registered a hike of 0.17% and the Southeast remained with the lowest rate (0.09%).
The highest accumulated indexes in the year and in the last twelve months were registered in the North region (8.32% and 10.03% respectively). The lowest results in these periods occurred in the Central West region (5.73% and 7.22%).
The regional costs were R$ 577.21 (Southeast); R$ 545.53 (South); R$ 520.81 (North); R$ 515.50 (Central West) and R$ 492.36 (Northeast).
Among the states, Pará stood out
As a consequence of the wage readjustment of labor force, the state of Pará registered in October the most elevated index (2.23%). Below were Acre (0.77%), Santa Catarina (0.70%), Ceará (0.68%) and Piauí (0.60%). The lowest results came from Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul with 0.06% followed by Alagoas, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo with 0.07%.
