Increases in fuels were the main responsible for November's rate.

The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA-15) changed 0.63% in November, above October’s result (0.32%). From January to November, the index accumulated a change of 6.64% and, in the last 12 months, of 7.13%. To calculate IPCA-15, prices collected from October 14 to November 11 were compared to prices charged from September 14 to October 13.

The acceleration in the rate from a month to the other was a consequence of the rises in fuel prices. For the consumer, the liter of gasoline became, on average, 3.19% more expensive, due to the adjustment of 4.0% in the distributors, in force October 15. With the adjustments in force in the refineries, the price of a liter of ethanol went up 9.59%. Airfares, reflecting the increases in cost, especially of fuel, had a raise of 5.93%. In domestic use fuel, the prices of bottled gas (1.46%) also increased.

Other items showed increase in the month, with highlights to cigarettes (1.45%), condominium fees (1.34%), new cars (1.20%) and landline telephone (1.17%).

The rate was also influenced by the increase in the prices of food products, which, although they had a slight fall (-0.05%), they increased compared to the previous month, when the result was of -0.26%. Potatoes (from -10.23% to -6.02%) and the leafy vegetables   (from -8.46% to -1.20%) decreased less. Carioca beans (from 2.06% to 18.27%) had an expressive increase.

Among the areas, the highest result was from São Paulo (0.84%) and the lowest, from Recife (0.16%).

IPCA-15 refers to families with incomes from 1 to 40 minimum wages, whatever the source, and covers the Metropolitan Areas of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, São Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador e Curitiba, besides Brasília and Goiânia. The methodology is the same as IPCA’s. The difference between the two indicators lies in the period of price collection.
