The National Construction Index, calculated by the IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, changed 0.69% in September, retracting 0.38 percentage point compared to August (1.07%).  Compared to September 2003 (0.42%), the current result was greater (0.27 percentage point).

The accrued rate for the year was of 7.80% and, for the last twelve months, 10.06%, lower than those registered in the same periods of 2003 (11.97% and 18.38%).

The national cost per square meter registered at R$ 493.30.  Of these, R$ 286.86 were relative to materials and R$ 206.44 to labor.

The share of materials registered a deceleration of 0.79 percentage point, passing from 1.83% (August) to 1.04% (September).

On the other hand, labor advanced 0.17 percentage point, passing from 0.03% to 0.20%.

 

The accrued indexes for the year and the last twelve months were:

For the year: materials with 9.58% and labor 5.43%;

For twelve months: 11.38% and 8.27%, respectively.

 

 

Midwest region registered the highest monthly index

 

The Midwest region, with a high of 0.94%, stood-out from the rest in September.  It was followed by the Northeast (0.82%) and the South (0.77%), that also were above the national index (0.69%).  Below it were the Southeast (0.56%) and North (0.46%).

The Midwest region also registered the highest indexes for the year (8.70%) and the last twelve months (10.63%).

The lowest results were observed in the North, with variations of 5.77% in the year and 8.63% in twelve months.

 

The regional costs were of: R$ 530.94 (Southeast); R$ 500.88 (South); R$ 479.02 (Midwest); R$ 468.08 (North) and R$ 445.48 (Northeast).

 

 

 

 

Sergipe had the highest index among the states

 

The construction cost increased 3.11% in Sergipe due to wage readjustments among the professional categories.  The state of Acre registered the lowest index (0.22%).  Mato Grosso had the highest accrued rate in the year (10.24%) and in twelve months (14.64%).
