The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), estimated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, registered a change of 0.21% in January, staying 0.44 percentage points below December's rate in 2014 (0.65%). The result of the last 12 months was 5.94%, below the 6.20% recorded in the 12 months prior to that period. In January 2014, the rate was 0.45%. These results reflect the exemption in the payroll of the enterprises of the civil construction sector, pursuant to law no 12,844, enacted on July 19, 2013. When the exemption is not taken into account, the change in the month stays at 0.20% and the cumulative rate over the last 12 months, at 6.03%.The complete publication of the survey can be accessed at https://www.ibge.gov.br/english/estatistica/indicadores/precos/sinapi/default.shtm.

The national cost of construction per square meter, which in December was R$ 913.32, in January changed to R$ 915.22: R$ 498.35 relative to materials and R$ 416.87 to labor force.

Labor force presented a change of 0.22%, 0.62 percentage points below the rate of 0.84% recorded in December. Materials registered a change of 0.20% in January, while in December they were up 0.49%. The accumulated indexes in 12 months were: 4.47% (materials) and 7.69% (labor force).

North Region records the highest monthly change

The North Region, with a change of 0.72%, posted the biggest change by area in January. The other regions presented the following results: 0.09% (Northeast), 0.20% (Southeast), 0.21% (South), and 0.10% (Central-West).

The costs by area, per square meter, were: R$ 928.95 (North); R$ 852.37 (Northeast); R$ 956.23 (Southeast); R$ 929.21 (South) and R$ 928.00 (Central-West).

Amapá records the highest increase

Due to the pressure coming from the salary rise based on a collective work agreement, Amapá registered the biggest monthly change: 4.52%.

SINAPI, created in 1969, has the purpose of producing information on costs and indexes in a systematic way and with a national coverage, in order to elaborate and evaluate budgets as well as monitor costs.
