National Index of Civil Construction changes 0.18% in February

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), estimated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, recorded a change of 0.18% in February, standing 0.03 percentage points below that in January (0.21%). Considering January and February, the cumulative index in the year was 0.39%. The result of the last 12 months stayed at 5.67%, below the index of 5.94% recorded in the immediately previous 12 months. In February 2014, the index was 0.44%.

The national cost of construction per square meter, which closed at R$ 915.22 in January, changed to R$ 916.85 in February, R$ 499.23 relative to materials and R$ 417.62 to labor force. The share relative to materials registered a change of 0.18%, falling 0.02 percentage points over the previous month (0.20%).
Labor force also recorded a change of 0.18%, falling 0.04 percentage points over January (0.22%). The cumulative indexes in the first two months of the year were 0.38% (materials) and 0.40% (labor force), while the cumulative indexes in 12 months were 3.92% (materials) and 7.77% (labor force).
Central-West region records the highest monthly change
By changing 0.33%, the Central-West Region posted the highest regional change in February. The other regions registered the following figures: 0.31% (Northeast), 0.07% (Southeast), 0.12% (South) and 0.18% (North). The regional costs per square meter were R$ 930.62 (North); R$ 854.97 (Northeast), R$ 956.88 (Southeast), R$ 930.34 (South) and R$ 931.04 (Central-West).
Sergipe tops the rate
Sergipe registered the highest monthly change, pressed by wage adjustments for servants in the civil construction: 1.12%. Alagoas (0.76%) and Tocantins (0.75%) were also influenced by the very same rise.
Disregarding the exemption of the payroll, the monthly change stayed at 0.18%, the cumulative index between January and February stood at 0.38% and, in the last 12 months, at 5.78%. The national cost of construction per square meter closed at R$ 981.06 in February, being R$ 499.29 relative to materials and R$ 481.77 to labor force.
SINAPI, created in 1969, has the purpose of producing information on costs and indexes in a systematic way and with a national coverage, in order to elaborate and evaluate budgets as well as monitor costs.
