The IBGE launches a set of products introducing Brazil for more than 200 teams that will compete in the Olympic Games, as well as for the international media, athletes and public in general. The highlights are the website Olympic Countries, the A Passport to discover Brazil - Get on board with the IBGE folder, in English and Portuguese, as well as news on the social media and on the IBGE web portal.

As of today, August 1, 2016, the website Olympic Countries, available here,  brings a specific link with information on the participation of the countries in the Olympic Games, like the number of medals and the disciplines in which they stood out along the history of the Games. The website also shows the main statistical data on the economy, population, social indicators, environment and networks (technology). As a result, sports information can be coupled with socioeconomic and environmental information to provide a wide understanding of the reality of these countries.

The A Passport to discover Brazil Get on board with the IBGE folder, which will be distributed in strategic places in Rio de Janeiro, shows the main statistical and geographic information of Brazil, like its territorial extension (8,515,767.049 km2), population (206.1 million inhabitants), life expectancy at birth (75.7 years) and GDP per capita (US$11,387).

Moreover, the folder introduces an infographic – explanatory illustrations on some subjects in the form of a map – of the Brazilian territory, representing six biomes (Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Pampa, Cerrado and Pantanal); the agricultural production (soybeans, corn, coffee, sugarcane, fruits in the São Francisco Valley and cattle ranching) and the mineral resources (copper, iron, niobium, gold, oil/natural gas, and precious and semi-precious gemstones); Indian peoples and immigrants; as well as the location of the aquifers, technology and knowledge hubs, most visited tourist destinations and Brazilian extreme points.

The digital version of the infographic can be accessed here, or from a QR Code – bi-dimensional bar code that can be read from cellular telephones equipped with a camera – printed in the back cover of the folder. This version will be also exhibited from August 4 to September 18 in totems at Casa Brasil, a venue destined to disseminate the Brazilian culture, located at the Rio de Janeiro Port (10 Rodrigues Alves Avenue, Warehouse 2, Gamboa).

The IBGE profiles in the social media: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram, as well as a series of posts on the Olympic Games will share 40-second long video animations mentioning the sports competitions and showing countries ranked first, second and third in terms of economic, social and environmental indicators, like GDP per capita, life expectancy and water reserves.

The Olympic spirit even affected the IBGE logo, which will be shown at the IBGE web portal in static (illustrations) and dynamic – animations in which the logo plays the sports disciplines – format during the competition.
