IBGE to relaunch Brazilian Magazine of Geography: call for papers now open

As part of the celebration of its 80th anniversary, IBGE will relaunch, in August 2016, the Brazilian Magazine of Geography (RGB), an important scientific publication of the Institute, regularly published from 1939 to 1996. The first edition of this renewed magazine will bring articles written by invited researchers. The call for papers for the second edition, to be released in 2017 has already started and ends on 31/10/2016. From then on, article submission will take place on a regular basis and the magazine will be released every semester. For more information on how to send your article see the magazine web page.

The production of the RGB will follow criteria of editorial excellence for the selection of texts. A scientific council - formed by researchers associated to renowned institutions in several fields of geosciences - will be in charge of the analysis of the material submitted. The magazine will present articles, essays, commentaries, reviews and technical notes.

Users will be granted free access t the publication on the online platform. That will enable faster submission processes and the analysis by editors, besides making the contente more easily accessible by search engines .

In 57 yeras of nonstop release, the RGB launched one volue per year, with four editions each. Between 2005 and 2006, ftwo new volumes were released, with two editions each. So far the magazine has had 60 volumes and 238 diferente editions. In this new phase, the magazine restarts from its final issue, and noew presentes its 61th volume. Previous ones are available at the IBGE Library.

 

The Brazilian Magazine of Geography has been the scenario for countless theoretical and methodological debates on geography and related sciences. The excellence of the publication turned it into one of the main scientific journals in Brazil. In its rebirth, the objective is to make it a reference not only because of its sucessful history and tradition, but because of the search of its staff for constant update and improvement.
