IBGE promotes, in Brasília, preparatory event for the 3rd National Conference on Statistics, Geography and Environment

From tomorrow to Friday (09 to 11/11/2016), IBGE promotes, in Brasília, a series of preparatory meetings for the 3rd National Conference on Statistics, Geography and Environment (INFOPLAN), which will be held from December 5 to 9, in Rio de Janeiro.

This introductory meeting will include discussions with key areas of statistical, geoscientific and environmental production in the public sphere, aiming at setting an agenda for the Third Conference, making institutional arrangements and establishing partnerships for the sharing of data in a National System of Official Information (SNIO) and for the production of information on topics such as public security, environment and a unified registry of persons, among others.

The event starts at 9 am, in the meeting room of the Chamber of Deputies, with a discussion on the role of IBGE before the Legislative Power. The meeting will be attended by the President of IBGE, Paulo Rabello de Castro, and by members of the Institute's board of directors. On the same occasion there will be the pre-launch of the Parliamentary Front on Geography, Statistics and Agri-environment (GEMA).

The meetings to follow - closed to public participation - will take place in the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MPDG). Among the participants are representatives of the MPDG; of the Civil House; of the Brazilian Court of Audit (TCU);  of the Ministeries of Finance, of the Environment and of Justice and Citizenship; of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and of the Army.

The National Conference on Statistics, Geography and Environment (INFOPLAN), held in Rio in its third and current edition, is a comprehensive forum for debate, during which IBGE will open doors to other producers and users of oficial information and to national and international specialists, in order to decide on the future steps of statistical, geographic and scientific production for the coming ten years, thus reinforcing their relevance and usefullness for Brazilians.
