National Index of Civil Construction changes 0.55% in January

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi), estimated by IBGE in partnership with CAIXA, recorded a change of 0.55% in January, up 0.49 percentage points in relation to December 2015 (0.06%). In the last twelve months, the rate was 5.86%, above the 5.50% registered in the previous twelve-month period. The index was 0.21% in January 2015. The national cost of construction per square meter, which closed at R$ 963.39, in December, changed to R$ 968.70 in January: R$ 518.13 relative to materials and R$ 450.57 to labor force.
The share relative to materials registered a change of 0.40%, increasing 0.29 percentage points in relation to the December 2015 (0.11%). The value of labor force was 0.72% higher in January, while in the previous month it was stable. The cumulative rate over twelve months stood at 3.99% (materials) and 8.08% (labor force).
Northeast Region records biggest monthly change
The Northeast Region, with 1.08%, recorded the highest regional change in the first month of the year. The other regions registered the following figures: 0.54% (North), 0.28% (Southeast), 0.19% (South), and 0.59% (Central-West).
Regional costs, by square meter, were: R$ 1,000.59 (North); R$ 899.55 (Northeast); R$ 1,004.39 (Southeast); R$ 1.001,65 (South) and R$ 981,50 (Central-West).
Piauí records the highest increase:
Due to the pressure from salary increases following a collective work agreement, Piauí registered the highest monthly change: 4.62%.
