3rd INFOPLAN: IBGE discusses future of Brazilian statistics, geoscientific and environmental information with producers, users and experts

The president of the IBGE, Paulo Rabello de Castro, opens today (12/5/2016), at 11 am, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), the 3rd National Conference of Producers and Users of Statistical, Geographic and Environmental Information - INFOPLAN, which gathers representatives of 200 private and public organizations, 350 Brazilian and foreign experts and nearly 2 thousand participants.

Until Friday (12/9), in the Centro de Convenções Sulamérica (1, Paulo de Frontin Avenue - Cidade Nova), the main issues on production and use of statistical, geoscientific and environmental information will have been covered in nine sessions, 30 lectures and 111 round tables. The motto is 'Coordinating for Planning'.

Among the topics, the highlights are sustainable development, Big Data, Justice and public security, health, education, culture, labor statistics, capture of social media records, natural resources, climate change, ecosystems, land use and cover, information sharing and access to administrative records, specific population groups, tourism statistics, statistics of extreme events and disasters.

Launch of Parliamentary Front of Geography, Statistics and Agro-Environment marks the opening of the conference

In the opening of the 3rd INFOPLAN, the Mixed Parliamentary Front of Geography, Statistics and Agro-Environment (FP-GEMA) will be launched. It is an association formed by congressmen and senators from several political parties, aimed at studying, discussing and forwarding legislative issues concerning the fields of geography, agro-environment and statistics. The target is to enhance the institutional development of the governmental entities involved in the production, management, usage, sharing and dissemination of information.

As a result, it is expected that GEMA can contribute effectively to public and private planning of key sectors for the Brazilian sustainable development.

In the opening ceremony, the IBGE will also pay homage to three personalities who have been contributing to the production and use of statistical information related with geography and environment. Congressman Carlos Melles (DEM/MG), the head of GEMA, will be granted the Isaac Kerstenetzky Medal of Agro-Environmental Merit; the president of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, will be granted the Mário Augusto Teixeira de Freitas Medal of Statistical Merit; and the Governor of Amapá, Antonio Waldez Góes da Silva (PDT), will receive the José Carlos de Macedo Soares Medal of Geographic Merit.

Conference hosts simultaneous events on climate change and launch of IBGE products

Besides the plenary sessions, lectures and round tables, the conference will host a parallel event on Statistic Related to Climate Changes, tomorrow (Tuesday, 12/6) from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, in which the main experts on climate change will participate, including representatives from the IBGE, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Ministry of Environment (MMA), National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet); National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alert of (Cemademn); Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Brazilian development Bank (BNDES), Embrapa Soils, Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), Ministry of Health (MS) and Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

During INFOPLAN, several projects will be launched: the new IBGE System of Automatic Recovery (Sidra), on December 6, at 11 pm; the Report of Mean Sea Level Variation in the Geodetic Permanent Tide Gauge Network (RMPG) - 2001-2015, on December 8, at 11 pm; and the Technological Innovation Survey - Pintec 2014, on December 9, at 11 pm.
