Stocking capacity stays at 159.3 million metric tons in 2nd half of 2014

Mainly due to the redesign of the Survey of Stocks, the number of active establishments in the warehouse network in Brazil reduced by 13.8% in the second semester of 2014. As a result, the installed storage capacity dropped 2.6% in relation to the first semester of 2014. In the second semester of 2014, this network comprised 7,927 active establishments, of which 46.5% were in the South Region, 25.6% in the Central-West, 18.6% in the Southeast, 6.5% in the Northeast and 2.8% in the North Region.

Capacity of 65.9 million metric tons makes silos prevail in warehouse network

In terms of storage capacity, silos prevailed in Brazil. Having a capacity of 65,934,801 metric tons in the second semester of 2014, silos were the only type of storage that changed positively (3.5%) between the first and the second semester of 2014. Silos were followed by automated and bulk warehouses, which hit 58,116,245 metric tons of storage capacity, dropping 1.6% in relation to the immediately previous semester. Conventional, temporary and inflatable warehouses added up to 35,271,425 metric tons, which represented a reduction of 13.7%, the highest drop among the types of storage.

Coffee stocks falls 9.7% in relation to 2H 2013

Concerning the product stocks on December 31, 2014, corn grain registered the highest volume (11,180,469 t), mainly due to the big harvest in the second crop of 2014. Wheat grain recorded the second highest volume in stock (5,870,060 t), since its harvest takes place in the last quarter of the year.

Similarly, soybean grain also had its volume in stock increased due to an increase in the production, which reached 86.4 million metric tons in 2014, a growth of 5.8%. Its harvest takes place in the first semester of the year.

In the case of paddy rice, the change was only 0.6%, resulting in a stock of 2,058,163 t by the end of 2014. Total coffee beans reduced its stock by 9.7%. This crop suffered with a dry and hot weather, as well as with the reduced investments. Its prices were not attractive since 2013, particularly for the arabica species, which rates higher in the market.
