Section: IBGE

The National School of Statistical Sciences (Ence), a unit of the IBGE, opens its doors to welcome schools, students, teachers and the external community during the fifth edition of the Ence Open Doors (EPA). The event will be held from June 8th to 12th, with a free program that seeks to bring the institution closer to society and present, in an accessible and interactive way, topics linked to statistics, mathematics, demography and geography.

The event is part of the celebrations of  the institution´s 90th anniversary. Over the course of five days, the public will be able to participate in lectures, on-line mini-courses, in-person workshops and activities aimed especially at school audiences. The initiative aims to give visibility to Ence's areas of activity and the projects developed by its academic community, promoting dialogue between the School and different audiences.

The program begins on June 8th with EPA Connections, held in person at Ence auditorium. The opening session will feature a lecture on women's participation in the 2022 Population Census, a presentation of extension projects and a poster session with extension students. On June 9th to 12th, the event continues with on-line mini-courses open to the public, covering topics such as statistics applied to public policies, actuarial logic, use of the IBGE geographic tools and analysis of microdata.

According to ENCE's General Coordinator, Jorge Abrahão de Castro, the event involves not only graduation, but the entire School as an extension activity. "Different activities will be carried out (lectures, poster sessions, short courses and workshops), in person and remotely for external audiences, involving the participation of the entire school, undergraduate and postgraduate teachers and students. For example, the workshops will take place in different areas of the school and with the participation of external teachers from Pedro II School, the Military Institute of Engineering - IME and the IBGE, with the participation of SES/RJ (in a workshop with the Division of Training and Improvement - ENCE/CTA) and IBGE Educa from the CDDI.

The complete program for the IBGE's 90th anniversary can be seen on the commemorative portal: IBGE 90 years

On June 10th and 11th, the in-person program will be dedicated to workshops aimed at school audiences. The activities were designed to present concepts in a playful way, with games, experiments and stories that bring students closer to the areas worked on by Ence. Each institution can enroll up to 25 students, accompanied by teachers or guardians.

One of the new features of this edition is the EPA Small Workshops, a special activity aimed at primary school students. The action will be held in a closed format, with the participation of previously invited schools, expanding the reach of the event to younger audiences.

Ence Open Doors is aimed at anyone interested in getting to know the School, but has a special focus on schools, students, teachers, researchers and the general public interested in the institution's areas of operation. Registration is free and must be done on-line by June 5, 2026, using the specific forms for each activity (see below).
