The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) deeply regrets the incident that occurred on February 6th in the Federal District (DF), in which a Survey and Mapping Agent (APM) was assaulted while performing his duties, while visiting a respondent to conduct household data collection for the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD).

The case has been duly reported to the police authorities for investigation. The APM will receive follow-up and psychosocial support offered by the IBGE, which continues to provide all necessary assistance to the civil servant.

The Institute clarifies that all its survey agents are properly identified, carrying a work badge with a photo, and, when necessary, wearing a vest with the IBGE logo. The veracity of the interviewers' identities can be confirmed through the website respondendo.ibge.gov.br or by calling 0800 721 8181.

The IBGE repudiates any form of violence and expresses its full solidarity with the assaulted employee, who was merely performing his tasks to contribute to the production of essential public statistics for the country's development.

We reiterate our respect for the population, our commitment to transparency and to the safety of our workers. We would like to ask the population to receive our agents with attention and respect, and, in case of doubt, to contact our official channels to confirm the legitimacy of the visits.
