New facility will be located at the IPECE headquarters
Casa Brasil IBGE in the state of Ceará will be opened this Tuesday (18). The facility, marked by innovation, will connect history, data and technology and bring the society closer to the work of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Casa Brasil IBGE will be part of the facilities of the Institute for Economic Research and Strategy of Ceará (IPECE).
Designed as an interactive environment, with the purpose of making knowledge about Brazil accessible, vibrant, and inspiring. With pillars based on Memory, Knowledge, and Future, the initiative preserves the trajectory of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and the history of the country, translates data into educational experiences, and stimulates data culture and public innovation.
“Casa Brasil IBGE is an important initiative to preserve and disseminate the memory and knowledge of the IBGE. Being close to society, the Institute democratizes the access to data and information in the public sphere to show that its work goes beyond the Population Census, offering exhibitions, a memory museum, educational materials, and training opportunities,” said President Marcio Pochmann.
The new branch is the result of a partnership with the State Government, whose objective is to create a space for integration of data, culture and citizenship, expanding the reach of the IBGE in the state and stimulating the social use of information.
The Director-General of IPECE, Alfredo Pessoa, highlighted the benefits of this partnership. “National events organized by IBGE, courses from the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE), interaction among public policy analysts, and joint surveys will be made possible by means of a cooperation agreement that few states in Brazil have. Therefore, there will be gains for surveys, for the economic strategy, for the government of Ceará, and for the population, since a comprehensive overview of the state's economic and survey structure is fundamental for the political agenda and the adoption of new public policies that mainly benefit the most vulnerable people.”
More than just an exhibition center, Casa Brasil IBGE Ceará will bring together experiences and encounters, promoting launches and public presentations of IBGE surveys; offering guided tours for schools and universities; receiving national and international delegations; hosting press conferences and awards ceremonies.
Among its goals are the dissemination of data culture, the promotion of Ceará's history and identity, connections with schools and universities, and inclusion in Fortaleza's educational and cultural circuit.
After inaugurating its headquarters at Palácio da Fazenda in Rio de Janeiro in May 2024, Casa Brasil IBGE began a process of expansion all over the country. It already has branches in Recife (PE), Belém (PA), and Juiz de Fora (MG).
